45-It's Christmas Time
Well, this is where it all ends, sort of. 45 days of 45 songs from 45 RPM records. That sort of wraps it up nicely, don't you think? I say 'sort of' because I have a few bonus things to share after this, but this is the formal end of the line. There's no real theme to all the songs here, but there is a theme that ties this to a previous share here this season. I want to see if anyone figures it out because you have to pay really close attention to what's gone on all season long. If no one figures it out in a week or so, I'll post the answer in the comments and declare myself pretty smart for making a puzzle so fiendishly complicated no one could figure it out. Either that or something so stupid that no one cared. Either way, we'll see what happens. If you're bailing out after this, I hope you had a great season, but I hope you won't. I think the bonus stuff is worth your time and it won't take too much time to get it all out there. Enjoy the tracks today!

Hi, Ernie, I‘m still here and will clntinue checkin in … Thanks again from Cologne.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're still here, only a few days left...
DeleteClap Clap Clap Clap.. thanks for your hard work. Looking forward to whatever you have got up your sleeve after this. You have given me enough Christmas/Winter music to keep me busy all season long! Tx for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNot a lot left compared to what just finished up, but a worthy coda, I think. We'll see.
DeleteGREAT set of tunes to "unofficially" conclude the season with. You have one of my favorite Brook Benton Christmas songs (which I have on a Brand "X" LP from Holiday Records titled Best of Christmas), "Christmas Roses" from Jo and Frankie, two of my favorite traditional pop singers, My favorite cut from Jimmy Roselli's Christmas album (and in my personal list of 50 obscure/forgotten all-time favorite Christmas songs), the Kapp version of "Jingle Bell Rock" (which I have yet to listen to), Tommy Page's "Christmas Without You" (another one of my faves from 2022 here that you brought to my attention) a surprise Christmas cut from Tennessee Ernie Ford that was new to me, great cuts from Don Cornell, Tommy Edwards,. Joni James, and Johnny Desmond (another one of my faves), plus something from Mona Abboud that IS NOT "The Pretty Little Dolly" for a change! Plus the latest addition to my small Christmas 45 collection (as of May 2024), Perry's "Christmas Dream". Great grand finale playlist!
DeleteThe question here is, does that list of songs sound familiar? ;)
DeleteHi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteI am still here and sick as a cat. I am vaccinated for Corona and Influenza, but I now have a cold. Pity there is no vaccine for this.
Very clever...45 days, 45 songs, on 45 rpm singles.
I just calculated the amount of 45 x 45. It is 2025. This is the year 2025. Wow, what luck this will bring to all who downloaded these collections. Plus, more importantly, good luck to you. Bless you...
Some clever math there, and all true, but that's not the secret theme. Hope you feel better soon!
DeleteWhat a fantastic achievement! The huge amount of work involved must have required incredible dedication to the task.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for leading this installment off with the great Little Augie!
The hard part was finding and holding onto all these records all these years. :)
DeleteThanks, Ernie! What a season it has been. I never would have guessed there were that many Christmas 45s out there. Now I'm wondering what more is out there. Will definitely stick around to see what you share in the days to come, and am impatiently waiting for Christmas '25.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are always more to find. And Christmas 2025 will be here before you know it.
DeleteBryan, I knew it had to be something to do with 45s :) That is amazing, Ernie! I have never paid much attention to whether records were 33s, 45s, etc before... You do a lot of hard work! As I sort the music, I download, into popular (Chart stoppers non-instrumental) or non-popular musicians (the non-popular includes instrumental music)... I was raking my brain, trying to figure out what you had done so cleverly, until Bryan talked about the 45s.
ReplyDeleteLooking at my iTunes Christmas lists, I can see you still have some to make albums complete... so I suspect you will be uploading a whole bunch at once, like a finale at a Fireworks show ;) Even though, you live in FL, you are still the "Best in the West"! :)
Well, there is still a theme that runs here that no one has noticed yet. It may be a theme that ties in elsewhere...
DeleteI'm still trying to figure it out. I thought of a funny, but interesting thread... All the major record labels had gone country during the time period of 45's. Plus, a funny is that "Ernie has gone Country" Hehehe ;)
DeleteI grew up country, no problem there ;) My Dad would listen to country radio, and my Mom would listen to cultured public radio ;)
Nah, nothing to do with country music, I'm not that clever. I feel like the country stations were more hospitable to Christmas music for a while in the sixties and seventies, or maybe more of those singles have survived to this day. I see a lot more country Christmas than most other genres, except maybe 50s-60s EZ listening stuff. But my sample may not be representative.
DeleteThe theme is tied to another share, if you need a hint. It's not a stand-alone thing.
Thank you very much Ernie for all the songs, the efforts for creating those gorgeous lists and the work you put in this beautiful Xmas presents!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining me on the journey! :)
DeleteThanks for everything, Ernie!!!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure!
DeleteI believe that they call accomplishments such as 45 for 45 on 45 by the term "monumental". There are many more words for the gift you have given us, but I think I'll let them live in my heart and just thank you for giving us such holiday joy!
ReplyDeleteWell, I try. Getting hard to keep up with myself. But I like to go big or go home when I can. :)
DeleteJust a bonanza of offerings this year! I really don't know how you do it. Stubby does the stockings...you pile the gifts up under the tree! Thanks, as always.
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of collevtion I've wa Ted to do for a long time, but kept telling myself I didn't have enough singles. We'll, I guess I was wrong. :)
DeleteYou never cease to amaze me Ernie, and the 45's I've found from your shares this year really expanded my playlists. Theme guess: Does each track represent one of the 45 previous themes?
ReplyDelete-Steve in PA
I thought about doing that, but no, that's not it. I guess there's not really a theme as much as a connection... ;)
DeleteThe Bobby Helms Kapp remake is remarkably faithful to the original. I knew the Little Darlin version but not this one. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteHeaven only knows how many times he's recorded that same song. Poor guy can't seem to get out from under it's shadow...
DeleteI discovered the different versions from Jingle bell Rock with your work. I like to hear the variations in it. Many thanks for sharing. I also do like your shared version of Jingle Bell Rockford The Jingoleers. They are playing the backtrack near by the original and make some instrumentals to it. I will take a look to at the different versions from Bobby Helms now.
DeleteI suspect there are a couple more version on some albums he did for budget labels in the 60s and 70s, but I need to pay closer attention to be sure those aren't just reissues.
Delete"Poor guy can't seem to get out from under it's shadow" I don't think you'd call him a poor guy if you saw his bank account totals from that song
DeleteI hear ya, but it's hard on a person to peak that early in life, and everything else you ever do is a footnote to it. I'm sure the money eases the pain though. Brenda Lee at least had a long career afterwards...
DeleteI like the 007 tune "Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?". Thanks for the Version from The Do-Re-Mi Children's Chorus. In my playlist there are the Eric Winstone Instrumental, Jackie DeShannon and Ninas Version, too. I also like the German, French and Dutch version of the song. Wovon träumt ein Weihnachtsmann im Mai 1974 Katja Ebstein, Savez vous ce qu'il faut au sapin de Noël? 1969 Isabelle Aubret and Waarvan Wordt Een Denneboompje Groot? 1970 Martine Bijl
ReplyDeleteOoh, there are non-English versions of that song floating around? I'll need to hunt those down!
DeleteHi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteEither I missed it, or what is the theme or connection with this playlist?
That being said, to me this seems more of a personal favoites playlist to me.
I cannot remember playlists 1-30, but of the playlists 31-45, this is my overall favorite one. It is the only one I could relisten to without skipping a track. Every track is catchy and some are standouts in their own right. There is, to my liking, not a dud in the group. While it does not contains the "classics", it contains a lot of new favorites and repeat favorites.
I believe the conceit here is that the tracklist is the same as day 2, only with different artists. I few of the songs are different, but all the titles are the same. No one noticed...
DeleteWow that is clever. I will have to compare and listen to that one again. As i said, I really liked this one from start to finish.
DeleteI liked it, but I guess I was too clever for my own good.
