July The First

It's July! And that means it's time for the annual Christmas in July celebration around these parts. But I don't have things quite sorted out yet, so here's the beginning of a series of stop-gap postings to kill some time while I figure things out.  If you've been hanging around here long enough, you're familiar with the Christmas in July concept, but here's a description in a nutshell.  I collect up Christmas, winter or holiday themed tracks from albums that are otherwise not seasonal.  So if someone decides to do a version of Jingle Bells in the middle of their kiddie singalong record, I'm gonna grab it.  And once you start looking, there are quite a few of these sorts of songs out there. And they're frequently lost to time, or at least to seasonal celebrations, so I decided a long time ago to start collecting them up for my own appreciation, and then later on decided to start sharing them with you. Later still, my friend CaptOT decided I had shared too many songs and created a best-of collection.  He even put a cover together and that's what you see above.  The tracklisting is below, and all the songs are linked to the original day I shared the track.  The old shares aren't around anymore, but this collection of greatest hits has persisted through time and it's here for you again today. Ladies and gentlemen, this is The Best Of Christmas In July 2006 From Ernie (Not Bert)!

  3. Heck, I didn't even realize it's July! So pleased to have you back again.

I have to say, the Capt's choices have more than a whiff of the lounge to them. Jerry Murad and His Electronic Harmonicats?

  4. I almost forgot to check in here this month. Now I have to see if this "Best-Of" has been seen before (since 2006) and if I saved it. I have a vague recollection of having saved something from that year.

  5. Welcome back, Big E! I've been checking in a lot the last couple of weeks, and greatly pleased to see that you are once more gifting us with your special mix of consistently entertaining seasonal audio.

Whichever way you choose to curate this go-round, rolling your own or nabbing old 78s from the WWW, I know that many wonderful things are in store for us all. The polish, fit, and finish of your work makes for high-magnitude time-travel listening vectors.

Of special note are the foreign-language choices you have shared. I've passed some of those along to acquaintances and share their thanks back to you.

Thank you so very kindly for all your work, Ernie. I have been looking forward to your next effort since January.

Be well. Stay safe. Keep 'em comin'!

  6. Thank you all! Glad to be back, even if it's only a rehash of past glories.

I misspoke about this collection a bit. I think I put together the best-of track list, and the Captain made the covers later on. And as for it being mostly lounge music, that was certainly what I was looking for at the time. Still am, but I've had to broaden the horizons in most years to be able to share out a thousand tracks! :)
