One Week Warning

Time for another desperate plea for comments, errr, I mean, another chance for you folks to chime in and tell me what your favorite songs are so far this season. There's only a week left before the big day, and things are only going to get more hectic from here on out. So take a bit of time this weekend to relax and listen to some of this great music that you've downloaded, then let me know if you have any favorites. Spent some time buying Christmas presents for the cats last night, and they had a huge light show at the mall that was nice. Soundtrack was all Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Brian Setzer and remakes of the same two or three late fifties hits. Not sure if you could do a light show to old 78s, but I'd love to see someone try. :)

  1. Hi Ernie. Thanks SO much for all of the music! I've downloaded a ton this year but haven't had time to listen to a lot of it yet. Working through it all will give me my Christmas music fix during the new year.

I do really like the Chet Baker Winter Wonderland. I had a live version of it on CD but I like the studio recording better. Also the various cha-chas and mambos are a lot of fun.

    Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

  3. Downloaded most everything from the Internet Archive-so far. Maybe when I got time off from work I can listen to more of it. Enjoyed the new to me performances as I thought I'd heard most of what was out there. As always, I'm wrong.

  4. Thanks for the notes, folks! Glad you're finding good stuff in there. :)

Brian-Sometimes I think I've heard it all, too, but thankfully there's always more to find, and it's a great feeling when you do find something new and different. :)

  5. It's amazing how much stuff is out there - and you bring it all to us! Many thanks.

  6. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from the Internet Archive. Don't know why, just didn't.
    Boy was I wrong.
SO MUCH good stuff so far!

  7. I really like the Jingle Bells Boogie Woogie. Also all the instrumental stuff and the "Really old stuff" share. Keep it coming!

  8. I don't know if people understand how much work you must put into these recordings, this is not just you grabbing and reposting but listening for just good music, then the clean up - wow, I have other copies I've grabbed someplace else and every time I compare your files with what I have I immediately delete the other and keep yours - and let's talk for just a moment about the care you put into ensuring the information is correct - well done kind sir and a real treat for us all!

  9. Thanks so much for the comments and high praise!

The Internet Archive is a place that rewards your searching. I find a lot of stuff almost by accident. And neat stuff sometimes pops up in the 'Similar' bar at the bottom of the pages. You can get lost for hours, it's a deep rabbit hole. :)

And I wouldn't do all the work for these shares if I didn't love 'em! I've bought CDr's from companies promising 100's of songs from 78, only to get a pile of poor rips stolen from internet sites, including things that never came out on 78, and completely missing any tags with poor filenames. I'm determined not to do something like that. :)

    Merry Christmas!!

  13. I especially liked both sides of the Bonnemere and Sister Rosetta Tharpe 10"s, and I was stoked to see Les Baxter make an appearance. Too bad the flip of that one wasn't also a holiday tune.
"The Skater's Yodel" is also oddly hypnotic...
    Thanks, Ernie!

  14. Best one for me (so far, with several collections yet to heard)and at the top of my playlist is The Sportsmen - Sleigh. I don't think I've EVER heard another version like that one. And trying to keep up with the lyrics isn't easy!!

  15. Thanks, folks. Everyone seems to find a different favorite in the stack. That's why I try to share so much and such a variety of stuff. I never know what you folks might appreciate. :)

  16. Holiday Greetings, Ernie! I'm most remiss in not commenting more often. I'm loving every minute of the new shares, even if I can't point to one element as a favorite. My (lame) excuse is that I'm often downloading the new music and immediately popping it into a mix with all other sorts of recently added Xmas tunes, listening to them all on random shuffle as the day wears on. As I'm hearing them individually, I'm most often not specifically aware of which tune came from where. (I add music each year from a variety of sources; the library, (like yourself) newly acquired CDs or albums, and of course the blogosphere. In any event, please know that your diligent efforts and kind sharing are received with deep appreciation, proper respect for the work involved, and a sincere wish for a safe and happy Xmas season in days ahead. Namaste. - Chris

  17. I often wonder if you realize just how important and loved you are during the holiday season (and in July for that matter!). I have been following your blog for well over 10 years now, and every year, you amaze with the tunes, and the vast quantity of them you share with us. We can never thank you enough, in my humble opinion. Know you are appreciated and, again, thank you for all you do. I also look forward to reading your comments during Rob Martinez's annual Christmas In July show. Merry Christmas, and here's hoping 2021 gets back to some semblance of normalcy!
