21-Christmas Tree

A collection of songs about the Christmas tree today, a fine collection if I do say so myself. The Internet Archive really coughed up some winners for this collection. My personal favorite is the one above by Big Bud, I don't know that I've heard it before, and it rocks!  There's also a track below that seems to be the first ever appearance of a Ruth Lyons Christmas song on record, and she even plays piano on it. I'm not a huge Ruth scholar, but I couldn't find anything else with her name on it this early. And I don't think I knew that Fairy On The Christmas Tree actually had words, I just knew it as an instrumental by George Melachrino. Oh, and there's an early Christmas track by The Four Aces in here, too.  Much to appreciate in this batch, give it a good close listen, and enjoy!

  1. Really looking forward to this selection (know and love "The Fairy on the Christmas Tree", while the rest is new to me). Here's this years Xmas Delights (IX) with a few tunes originally discovered here - as always.

  3. I am familiar with some of these, and have even shared a few, but the rest are new, including Big Bud, and I thank you for them.

I am preparing the Kukla, Fran and Ollie Christmas LP and will be including this Fran Allison record and maybe some others.

  4. Sounds cool, Buster! Pretty sure I brought home a copy of this Fran Allison single on 45 the other day, if you're unhappy with the 78 sound. And I see there's an RCA kiddie 78 for K,F & O at The Archive. You can probably dig up a ton of stuff, knowing you. :)

    Thanks for the comment!

  6. Thanks yet again. Enjoy how you're laying
these out. When I eventually burn them all, I can
choose from this pile, a little from that pile..etc etc.
    Fun time!

  7. That was weird: I played the Big Bud tune and suddenly could smell a Christmas tree. I don't have one in the house, either...

  8. Btw if I were to update the list on this years favorite discoveries; Fran Allison - (Sweet Angie) The Christmas Tree Angel, Jack Brown and The Three Jills - Let's Light The Christmas Tree and Raymond Scott/Clyde Burke - All Around The Christmas Tree, would all be included on it. Great selection - thanks!

  13. It's funny. I don't remember seeing Big Bud anywhere until I found it on the IA this year. But now I see and hear it in a multitude of places. I suppose he was always there, I just didn't notice or pay attention. I need to listen more closely to the things I already have, I suppose. :)
