2022 At 78 RPM-Part 10

Well, here we are in March! Seems like just yesterday it was Christmas, and now we're three months past and well into 2022. I've kept this series of 78 RPM posts up for a good long while now, and I think it's going pretty well. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am. Much as I did at the beginning of February, I've got a special share for you today. It's some promo records from the early 50s that went to radio stations to play alongside popular Christmas music of the day. Stuff like this is hard to find and rarely made available to the public. Thankfully, the Internet Archive got their hands on them, digitized them, and shared them with the world. I take no credit for any of that. All I did was download them, clean them up a bit, and share them here for those of you that don't hang out over there and incessantly search for likely keywords to find cool stuff. First up is a Christmas Seal selection from Perry Como, including a specially recorded introduction. The song was released commercially so it's not all that special, but I'm throwing it in anyway. Next up are a couple of things from Spike Jones, one pair of which isn't especially Christmassy but it's for a song they gussied up to make it a Christmas tune, while the other sixteen (!) tracks are for a well known Christmas tune that everyone loves. Though after hearing all the parts of a fifteen day countdown to Christmas, you may be a little sick of Little Georgie Rock.  Have at it, and thanks for continuing to come by!

  1. Hey, these are fabulous! I may not be able to handle George Rock telling me how many days to Christmas over and over, but the rest is A+. I do want to hear "Andre Koroshovsky" and Como's message. The "One Little Candle" tune was a favorite of mine back then.

  2. Highly interesting sides--and I think I have that Como message on 45 (not sure). But I never listened to it, so this is a new experience. The foster child tracks are cool, but I was never a fan of George Rock's little boy routine. Interesting, though, that RCA Victor used promo announcements for an upcoming Spike Jones single.

  3. Thanks for the comments, guys. Good to know you're still listening. :)

Lee-I suspect that any of these could have come out of 45, since RCA started pressing those in '49, but I don't know if they would have been sending promo records to radio stations on 45s that early. Maybe, but I suppose it depends on how many stations were playing them already. I suspect it was a slow changeover.
