Hello! It's a new month, and I've got something a little special for you in honor of my having made it this far. This week I've got two records featuring special artist introductions to new songs from the late forties! I've shared some intros like these with you from other, later decades, but never anything this early. I was pretty excited when these records popped up at The Internet Archive since they so rarely show up in real life, and when they do, they command some big bucks. They're very short, so you're not getting a lot of listening time out of them, but the enjoyment it great! The record above features introductions to Spike Jones' newest Christmas song from all the members of his band, each one doing a short skit, and then there's a full band version. This was a banded record, and there was a little bit of a problem when they recorded the last band, so I had to edit the beginning a bit with a fade, so you miss the start, but I don't think you'd notice if I didn't tell you. The second record features intros to more new Christmas music for 1948 from Vaughn Monroe, Larry Green, Freddy Martin, Sammy Kaye and someone named Eddie Arnold. I'm sure they meant Eddy Arnold, but that's what it says. I'm sure you'll enjoy these as much as I did, and I'll be back next week with more actual music.

I'm a little pressed for time here, so the fridge door story is going to have to wait.

Thanks again, Ernie! You've inspired me to take a deep dive into the Internet Archive. I've been finding some old blues, jazz, & country gems - plus some great sunshine pop & psychedelic stuff. All non-Xmas - but I'll leave that to you!
ReplyDeleteFun stuff - took me a few to find and add the intro to some of the tracks I have - good use of time watching the Olympics and enjoying some christmas music - you always share some interesting things there

I almost went through and included 78 RPM rips of all the tracks being introduced, but I decided not to. They're common enough, I think most Christmas collectors would have them somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments!
These are great! So nice to have.
ReplyDeleteHope you and the fridge are on the mend.
ReplyDeleteAw, c'mon man, I'm literally on tenterhooks here waiting for the fridge story!
Okay, since I didn't really know what a "tenterhook" is, I looked it up. Frankly, I hope I'm never "literally" on a tenterhook. It would probably be quite painful. So I'm sitting here in the alternate sense of "tenterhooks", being in a state of suspense, mostly because my fridge is quite old and I want to know any warning signs of fridge door self-detachment.
That being said, I sincerely hope you are easily recovering from your heart condition.
"The Fridge Door Story", coming to theaters this summer. Also available streaming.
ReplyDeleteOh, my God. There's more to that story? I can understand why you'd wait to tell it--I'd be locked in a state of trauma.
