You're a machine, Ernie! "Down the Rattlesnake Trail" is one about which I'm curious...and certainly seems as if it falls into your category of the day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Badgercat. That particular song is from the set of skiing songs, I think it refers to a ski trail, maybe something particularly difficult. Certainly not a Christmas song, but I had downloaded and shared the balance of the collection (though I think it's missing a record...).
ReplyDeleteA lot of interesting jazz numbers here, plus "The Roller-Skaters Waltz" by Jeff Gladhill at the "Hollywood Roller Bowl" Organ, which was written by Louis Busch, aka Joe "Fingers" Carr! Here is a photo and info on the Hollywood Roller Bowl, in case you want to visit:

I note that the Roller Bowl's second location was closed for these reasons: "operation has resulted in batteries against police officers, assaults with deadly weapons, drunks, robberies, thefts from motor vehicles, disturbing the peace, resulting in numerous arrests for these offenses." Might want to pack a gun if you visit.
ReplyDeleteYou love your roller rinks, I see. And Jim Garner is a mighty tall fellow!
ReplyDeletei love "Igloo"! not sure it will make my xmas playlist but it is very cute! (of course- Vic Mizzy!)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ernie, for another great collection of tunes. Again it can be combined with so many other wonderful posts you have offered this year. This would make them into a long and varied playlist. Thanks again, for all your "hard" and time-consuming work. Bryan
ReplyDelete"Have You Ever Tried Fryin' Snowballs"? Now THAT'S a song I have never heard of before. Can't wait to listen!
ReplyDeleteThis collection was great to listen to in the background as I was working. As has been pointed out, lots of jazzy tunes and yes, Ernie, the Rattlesnake Trail was about skiing. Missoula, Montana perhaps......
ReplyDeleteWow, you folks really like this set of not-really-Christmas songs! There's certainly some interesting stuff in there. :)
ReplyDeleteA little jazz, a little swing, a little lounge - this mix really does offer something for everyone, and I'll echo many other posters in saying I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this one. Especially nice to hear an appearance by Henri Rene, who put out some nice stuff with his band.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if it was end of season whirlwind, kismet, or accidental genius that led you to this mix Ernie, but you've definitely outdone yourself on this one.
Many thanks
I'm going to plead ignorance, but this set really seems to have touched a nerve somewhere, but a good one. To be honest, I put together the sets, but I don't listen to the selection from the little playlists, I listen to the whole pile on random play. This is a weird set to generate so much conversation though. The intro to that Marshmallow track is all chopped up, Roller Skating has nothing to do with Christmas, and some of the tracks are just out there. But I guess you never know. :) Glad everyone likes it.
