Merry 2019 Christmas!!!

Hello, and welcome back to the Christmas roulette that is Ernie (Not Bert) this time of year! I've got a lot of stuff to share with you this year, about half of it new and about half of it remasters of old shares from the 14 years I've been doing this crazy thing. I don't have a lot to say this early in the season, other than I hope you find something fun to listen to among the shares here. Don't forget that there are three years worth of shares in the archives, most of which have good download links.  Some of the older things will have the link in the comments, so don't forget to look in there. And while you're there, don't forget to leave me a comment or two.  Blogs run on comments, and if I don't get comments on a share, I have no way of knowing if anyone is paying attention.  In the old days, I could see how many times something was being downloaded, but not anymore. So if I don't get any comments, I assume no one cares. (I think the record for comments on a post was 30 on an old intro like this one, so let's see if we can beat that, OK?) Also of interest to you might be Christmas in July from this past year.  A whole month with two posts a day of Christmas music from albums that aren't considered Christmas related.  Over 800 tracks of random stuff, there's bound to be something in there for everyone. If you aren't familiar with how the downloads work, just leave a comment and myself or one of my friendly little elves will help you out.  It's a pretty simple process. I think, but then I've been doing this a long time, and I thought torrents were easy, so there you go.  Anyhow, the Christmas shares will start soon, and run through Christmas (or maybe Epiphany, depending on how I'm feeling), so come back often.  And if you put my songs on your Christmas comp, send me a copy, I love to see how people enjoy my music.  Well, it's not really my music, I just find it in the deep dark recesses of the thrift stores and try to bring it back to life.  You won't find anything on here that's available on Amazon or iTunes or Spotify or on CD, at least not if I can help it.  I try to share the stuff that's been forgotten or lost or was never known to begin with. A lot of this stuff has made it's way to the streaming world in the past few years, and I think that's a great thing.  The more folks hear this stuff, the more interesting the world becomes.  And as that's happened, I've broadened my horizons to independent releases, local stuff, things that aren't brought to you by a major label.  It's all good, give it a listen and see.  Thanks for visiting! Feliz Navidad!

PS-Bonus points if you know where the Christmas tree above is from, and double points if you can ID the original artist. :)

  2. Happy Thanksgiving, Ernie! Looking forward to hearing all the bell ringers and organists and kids' choirs you have uncovered in the past year.

I can't place the illustration, but I'll bet it's by Mozelle Thompson.

  4. Merry Chrristmas Ernie. You are a part of our Christmas celebration. There was a time you did not share your Xmas treasures...we were a bit sad. Just to let you know we value what you are doing. We are excited already to get the Xmas music you will share. Thanks so much. Merry Christmas.

  5. Wonderful to see you again. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed your shares over the years. I'm very excited to see what you have for us this year. Thank you for everything!

  6. Happy to see you back for another season! Looking forward to this year's shares, and bringing them to a new audience via my own playlist for Xmas Eve revels. Where once there were many, now there seems to be fewer and fewer Holiday-centric blogs to serve the passionate audience for seasonal fare. Thanks for all you do. I imagine that, while few may comment, many more actually download and listen. I've done the same in past, (for SHAME!), and hope that you know how much wider an audience you might be reaching through your best efforts. Keep the faith, and enjoy the weeks ahead.

  9. Ernie!
You truly are a Christmas music angel and we appreciate you shares and efforts more than you'll ever know. I'm guilty of downloading without commenting so here it the album cover that the tree comes from:

  10. I guess this Christmas tree isn't quite as obscure as I thought it was. Or maybe you folks are just that good! :)

  12. Delighted as ever to visit your blog and share in the musical bounty. Also, I SO appreciate that you re-post tracks from the past. I've had a couple of digital disasters where I lost great gobs of music files, including Christmas tracks from you, so some of your re-posts are like reuniting with old friends. Thanks for all you do!

  24. i believe the artist of the christmas tree was dwight david eisenhower. a close examination reveals several places where a rather casual application of color didn’t quite cover up the numbers beneath. while not a fan of rock ‘n roll, ike was nonetheless ready to do his bit with the record companies; for at a time when jim flora, andy warhol, and mozelle thompson were getting fifty bucks a pop for album covers, eisenhower could easily command fifty thousand (usually in the form of a donation to the republican national committee) from the major studios. on the subject of elvis, the president is remembered for his somewhat upbraiding comments such as, “i, for one, am more than just a hound dog”.

  29. Hello Ernie-
I've been visiting your excellent blog for about a decade. I've gotten some real gems from you. I am generally a 45 rpm guy: Santa Claus Jr. pops into my mind as one I got from you many years ago. I know they are time consuming, but I'm really hoping you have some oddball singles this season.
My favorite album I've gotten from you is probably Tim Dinkins- I love it. That's my kind of stuff. Kinda absurd, mostly awesome and with some solid raw guitar work in there.
Thank you for everything you do. I promise to comment more often this year.

  30. Wow! Just WOW! I truly appreciate all of the gems you uncover, and the many hours spent cleaning them up and making them better than new. So many memories, and so many cool things that due to your efforts I'm just discovering! What a great accompinment to go with (well - still putting them up) 14 trees, 300' of lit garland, and 700' of ribbon and bows adorning the house. Mele Kalikimaka e Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou!
