Warner Wally

I really should have shared this out earlier in the week when I blew out all those shares from the early days of the Warner Bros. label, but I forgot about it until this morning when I saw the mono version shared out.  This is one of those rare LPs that had a different name for the stereo versus mono version.  This one is Happy Holiday-Christmas In Stereo, while the mono version is entitled Happy Holiday-Christmas In High Fidelity.  Small difference, but I like noticing such things.  Really great music on here, I was surprised when I listened to it how much I enjoyed it.  I'm sure you will as well, so please download Wally Stott, His Orchestra And Chorus-Happy Holiday-Christmas In Stereo (Warner Bros WS 1341, Stereo, 1959).  That sleeve is a shiny, very reflective gold foil, and it didn't take well to the scanning process.

1. Happy Holiday
2. Wassail Song
3. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
4. Christmas Sleigh Bells
5. Shepherd's Chorus
6. The Holly And The Ivy
7. The Christmas Waltz
8. Away In A Manger
9. Good King Wenceslas
10. Snowfall
11. Silent Night! Holy Night!
12. White Christmas

  1. Very interesting! I was going to share this one, but I only have the mono version. I really like Wally Stott. Can't wait to hear the stereo.

  2. I grabbed a mono copy (there are several blogs posting this right now) just last night ... When I saw your stereo rip, I got that ...

Ernie, no offense to all the bloggers' hard work, but your rip is a lot more alive than the mono versions of the album.

    thank you

  6. Hey thanks a million for this one Ernie, and for all you do to make Christmas merry and nostalgic for so many folks. Just in case you or your readers don't know, "Wally Stott" was a brilliant British composer and arranger who, after gender reassignment surgery, continued her career as the even more brilliant and talented film composer and arranger "Angela Morley". My most beloved of her compositions was the gorgeous score to the film "Watership Down" - but that's not nearly all she did. Another cool fact is she was one of John William's most trusted orchestrators, contributing orchestrations to some of the most beloved passages of Williams'scores to Superman, Star Wars, Empire and E.T. She just passed away last year or so, lovely person and very gifted. Anyhow, there you go, a little mini bio on Wally Stott.

  7. Glad the post was enlightening. I truly recommend anything you ever find by Stott/Morley. They don't make arrangers like that anymore, regardless of gender! (Another wonderful composition of her's was the score to "Captain Nemo & The Underwater City" (1969) - a terrific and melodious film score of the type you never hear anymore.

And Crichton72, your efforts can be called many things, 'lackluster' is not one of them
