The Giant

I feel like I've forgotten how to post these shares. I've gotten down to just a very few in the queue and here I am trying to write something new and failing miserably. I don't know what to say about the record. At this great remove, I don't remember anything about it, what it sounds like, where I found it, how the recording went, nothing. It's been too long. All I can say for certain is that this is French-Canadian music, though it may just be French music released in Canada. Giving it a listen tells me it's a leather-lunged crooner backed with a pretty good orchestra. Is that a good enough intro for you? This is André Dassary-Noël (Alouette (Canada) ALP-49, Mono).

  1. You had me at "I don't remember anything", then you had me again at "leather-lunged."

I just wanted to let you know - since I saw you post something in the last couple years about not having any idea how many downloads you're getting, and I'm not one of the most prolific commenters, that since Oct I've been going through and downloading everything that's avail on Mega. Not all the Xmas in July stuff, but a lot of it. And most of the standard Xmas stuff (I generally skip the choral stuff these days cause I have enough for the rest of my life already). I wanted to let you know that in the last 4 months I've downloaded somewhere in the neighborhood of 600-700 files, including pdfs of the corresponding web page - not only for organizational purposes, but because you're funny and there's lots of good info in the posts and comments.

So thank you so much, Ernie. You really go above and beyond every year, pretty much all year long. I love having access to this quirky, fun, beautiful, and sometimes bizarre music - that I generally listen to from Nov 1st-mid Jan. I just want you to know how much you're appreciated.

    1. Thanks for your continued support. I'm sure there's far more Christmas music around here than anyone could listen to in a lifetime. I should just retire and rest on my laurels. Nah, where's the fun in that! :)

  2. We all live and collect and listen later for that moment when a song says "this is who you were/are/will be". Or in today's case, a recollection of a past life in Paris! Aha!!! Thank you for carrying forward a human spirit that is much-needed, especially by those who forget that we are all very, very human. Noel.

  3. HELLO ERNIE, YOU HAVE DONE ANOTHER MARVELOUS CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY MUSIC OF YOUR MUSIC. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I HAD ASKED YOU ABOUT THIS LITTTLE RED JEWEL TO REMIND YOU OF IT ONCE AGAIN. IF YOU COULD PLEASE REPOST THIS OLD ALBUM.. HERE IS WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY ABOUT IT..What's red, flexible and doesn't come from Pizza Hut? How about this second bright red flexi-disc? No idea where this one originally came from, but it features the semi-famous Mundell Lowe. I've never seen any other Christmas music from Mr. Lowe, so that makes this something truly interesting. And I think you need a little more 'interesting' in your life. Please download The Mundell Lowe Ensemble-The Sounds Of Christmas (Ameridisc Red Flexidisc, Mono). This pretty piece of sound ephemera was first shared back in 2007, which seemed to be a poplar year for me and flexi-discs.

    1. Medley: Adeste Fidelis, O Little Town of Bethlehem, The First Noel, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, Silent Night and Joy To The World Thursday, December 17, 2009.... THJANK YOU, SINCERELY, STAN

    1. Stan, I remembered this earlier in the week and posted a link in the comments of the original post here:

      https://ernienotbert.blogspot.com/2009/12/ep-day-part-4.html

And I discovered it's been up and available this whole time on a much more recent post here:

      https://ernienotbert.blogspot.com/2022/12/flexible-flyers.html

You can always search the blog when you're after something specific, I frequently repost things and don't update the older posts.

  4. You are so funny, Ernie ;)
You are still the best in the East, Ernie :)
I looked André Dassary up, on secondhandsongs.com - He was a popular artist, but was from France. Of course, his music was probably sold and promoted in Canada :)

    1. Canada is much closer to me than France, so it's easier to find their records. :)
