Handel Two

If that last electronic version of The Messiah wasn't enough for you, how about a slightly psychedelic version? This actually came out on Columbia Masterworks, right alongside all sorts of classical music and operas. It was a different time, and I guess they were trying. This is Revelation Philharmonic Orchestra And The One Experience Choir-The New Messiah (Columbia KC/AL 31713, Stereo, 1972). Beautiful gatefold sleeve with this one, too. You can see it in the download. I keep looking at that cover and wonder if there's any sort of hidden subliminal imagery that I haven't spotted yet. It's just too insane to not be hiding something.

1. Overture
2. Unto Us A Child Is Born
3. Glory To God
4. I Know That My Redeemer Liveth
5. And The Glory Of The Lord
6. Hallelujah
7. All We, Like Sheep
8. Surely He Hath Borne
9. He Trusted In Him
10. The Trumpet Shall Sound
11. Since By Man Came Death
12. Hallelujah (Reprise)

  1. Good gracious me ... next you'll post a punk-rock version.

I listened to some of this, and it is to say the least different.

    1. No punk rock, but i did have a hard rock version. It had recently gotten a CD reissue so I shelved it.

    3. Can't remember the name, David Somebody. Axelrod maybe? Very plain white cover with an embossed cross, I think. Hard to remember. OK, my memory is better than I thought it was...

  2. I'm not usually a huge fan of Messiah, but you've intrigued me with slightly psychedelic.

  3. I know that Word or Reunion Records released "Young Messiah" in the 1990s.

Will have to give this a listen :)

I am not a fan of Opera, but this kept my interest for the time it was playing.

    1. I don't know if I'd file this under Opera, but I'm glad it held your attention for a bit. :)
