51-Winter Sports

It's really late in the season, and themes are getting harder and harder to come by. But I think this is a pretty good one, even though it's not really about Christmas. All the songs today are winter sports, or at least winter activities. Frank Luther returns with one of about a million other songs I could have added to his earlier post, this time telling us not to skate on the thin ice. His is not the only song about skating (though I didn't grab any new versions of The Skater's Waltz, talk about opportunity missed...), and there are plenty of other songs about skiing. One of those is a Three Suns track that I've been looking for for a long time, but for some reason never spotted it right there in front of me at The Internet Archive. And just to get the post up to a good length, there's a full six sides from the same set that's ostensibly to help you learn to ski, but I have my doubts.  Tried and tried to find a cover image for that set, but to no avail.  If you can find and share one, I'd much appreciate it, I'm sure it's an interesting one. Lots of stuff here if you're in the mood, so download and enjoy!

  1. Though I've been silent in the comment sections for too long, you've got to know that your stamina is crazy! I know, I know, The Internet Archive has provided the songs this year, yet the creativity and putting it all together well into 2021 is greatly appreciated, Ernie.

    Thanks! We all need it...

  3. Hey, that Three Suns track is by Claude Yvoire, who did the "Jewels from Cartier" LP you gifted to me a while back.

  5. Downloading this for the Frank Luther! And now will have to go back and check out his other songs about safety. One can never be too careful these days.

And thank you for all of your terrific posts this year. Brought much happiness around the tree, while wrapping, all that stuff. And inspired me to do Internet Archive digging of my own. Am currently focusing on Liberty Music Shop sides, especially the piano music. Playlist of music from swanky 1930s night spots to listen to as I slog through 2020s spreadsheets...I think it will help.

    Happy New Year!

  7. Thanks for the comments, folks. They keep me going! :)

Buster-I knew I recognized the name, but I couldn't place it. Now we'll have to track down the rest of the St. Moritz Suite!

Stan-Thanks, but this isn't my old music vault. It's entirely the Internet Archive and their great collection.

Jeff-More Frank Luther to come. He was just so incredibly prolific for a time, there's much to discover in there.

Raven-Me either. I tried once, and very nearly ended up in a creek beneath the training area. Not gonna risk it again, even after listening to these records. :)

  8. I tried skiing when I was much younger. I found I could turn left easily. I couldn't turn right or go straight though. I gave it up.
