No Lightning

I drove home from the movies last night in and out of some rough thunderstorms. They were all localized, though, so when you weren't right under them, you got a pretty good light show from the lighting. Once I got home, I grabbed the camera and the tripod to see if I could get some pictures, as it wasn't raining at all near my house. I tried for about half an hour at three in the morning to capture some shots, but I got nothing worth anything. These are the best of the shots, and you can actually see a little bit of flash in two of them, but not enough to make it interesting, I'm afraid.

I've had a little more luck in the past, but it takes some pretty specific conditions to get decent lightning shots. You can check out my old pics here and here.

  1. Ernie,

Actually I think the second shot is pretty spectacular!

  2. Great photos. What type of camera are you using? Incidentally, it's been nearly 4 years since you posted the Robert Way album (New Englnd Sleigh Ride) and people are still downloading it! Not only is this MY first time hearing it, but I didn't even know about your blog until now. I actually posted a Robert Way album on my own blog a couple days ago. Feel free visit:

  4. Hi Ernie

I've been enjoying your photos for some time now. We have surprisingly similar interests, photographically speaking. I don't know how I found your blog originally, but I'm glad I did.

I shot a storm the other night. These are small roughs I posted yesterday. I was surprised to learn that I have many much better images that will go up later. Out of 396 shots from this storm I have a little over a hundred that have anything of the slightest interest. They're located here. Shot through a window. The storm was passing directly overhead.

I'm posting this comment from work. My personal blog holds some of my photos. Here's a link to an old post of my lighting photos taken with a very primitive digital a decade ago.

They aren't very impressive but I was constrained by the equipment, a Casio QV-11 that I enjoyed as much as possible while it lasted. It was claimed to the recycling heap by a stray beverage.

Thanks for sharing. Your stuff is better than TV most nights. :-)
