February!
Wow, it's February and I'm still posting stuff. Most years I stop on or around the twelfth day of Christmas, but this year I just had too much stuff in the can to stop. I told myself I'd finish up by the end of January but the stuff just kept piling up. I'm not sure how much further I can go but there are still records in the pile that need to be shared. I think 2020 holds the record for the longest I kept going. That was the year that I shared out refurbished 78s from the Internet Archive and I called it on February 7th of 2021, so I'm going to see if I can beat that. Ya'll keep coming around and I'll keep posting until I can't post anymore. Today's share is a bit of a mystery that I'm hoping someone out there can explain to me. I can't find any mention of this record out there on the internet. I can find one with a similar name and likely the same music, but it's got a different cover and the title includes a different year. It's all in Spanish so I can't understand what they're singing or what info the sleeve may have for me. Someone out there is bound to know what's going on here and hopefully they can clue us all in. I'm not even one hundred percent certain that this is a Christmas record, though the song titles tend to make me think it is. I thought the graphics were pretty cool too. For the super curious, this is La Rondalla Brugal-Acompana: Rafael Solano Y Su Conjunto-Navidad 1974 (Brugal (Dominican Republic) No Number, Stereo, 1974).

I THANK YOU, For all of your Holiday Posts. Here is an old one that should be brought back... Robert Way - New England Sleigh Ride: Music for The Christmas Season. Many of these Old Holiday Records were enjoyed so many times that we wore them out, much sooner than they should have been. I think many old records were made to be worn out within a few years.... There original Brilliance faded away. Maybe it was the record players low quality needles that might of done this. Not everyone could afford a great turntable, and even with a great turntable, records were worn out. Hopefully this could be Uploaded... Thank You for the Red two albums. Enjoy your weekend. Stan
ReplyDeleteFor a while, Mr. Way was selling copies of this recording on his website, so it wasn't something I wanted to share. I suspect he's not doing that anymore, so I'll take a look at it next year maybe. It's a good record and few people know about it.
DeleteHello Ernie, This is Stan, Our Google Account is being finicky. I thank you very much again for All of your Uploads & Reposts . You sure have given the World a lot of great Holiday Memories on your Blog site. Your Last Posting was on Tuesday, December 13, 2005. I remembered a few of the others that also did these Holiday Albums on there Blog Page many years ago. Take Car, Stan
DeleteHi, listening to a excellent copy of it now on YouTube. If I decide to buy it, it is remastered for sale on Amazon 9.99 Euro and iTunes 8.99 Euro. Plus you can listen to on various sites. Trying to decide if I should go ahead and buy it. It sounds like a winner. The YouTube version says it was put out by Mobil, now Exxon.
DeleteYes, it was a pretty good LP. Mobil sold it at their stations similarly to how Goodyear and Firestone had their albums. This was volume 1, volume 2 was the King Family Christmas album.
DeleteJust being silly, not a dancing or a toe taping album, but a cuddling up to one.
DeleteAs the weather is biting ❄ cold, currently 21F and well be colder...
Oh, it says this was a Vol.1. Was there a Vol.2?
Not sure why we're talking about this ancient share here in the comments of this current share... But here is a link to volume 2...

Hi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteFrom what I can gather, it was released in 1972. Then re-released, again and again. As the same album, with or without all the same tracks, added tracks or what not.
Possibly in different markets, to trick the home buyer, or whatever.
Yes the 1974 and 1975 albums are the same, but different covers, etc.
Yes, they are all Christmas songs, or at least what they call Christmas songs.
Track #2, sounds more like a NewYears tune, If They Don't Give Me a Drink. But, Christmas albums contain both Holidays.
The term "brugal rondallas" likely refers to a specific type of rondalla, which is a traditional ensemble of stringed instruments from Spain. The rondalla itself is an ensemble of stringed instruments played with a plectrum, originating in Medieval Spain, particularly in the Crown of Aragon, Catalonia, Murcia, and Valencia. The word "rondalla" comes from the Spanish word "ronda," meaning serenade. In the Philippines, the brugal rondalla is a distinct version that incorporates local influences and is used in traditional folk dances and performances.
DeleteSeems to fit nicely.
I was not going to download this share, but I did and I am glad I did. It reminds of all those CDs and mp3s I have of this type of music for my Collection on Bachelor Pad music or because the artists were huge artists in the 40s-60s.
there claim to have free programs on the internet to translate from one language to another. i am too tired to try them. Somehow you upload the song or whatever, to technical for me to try out.
DeleteI can do translate programs, like google, deepl, and what not.
if you find one, lets us all know.
Well, that's more than I knew before. Thanks for the info!
DeleteI rarely listen to Christmas music at home, but this was an exception, and well worth it. Reminds me of Prado, Cugat, and a few others, however I have no Christmas music from them, that I am aware of?
DeleteI think I found a couple pieces from The Nutcracker Suite by Xavier Cugat during Christmas In July. There's one on this collection:

Thanks for the link. After seeing it, I have this downloaded and saved in your complete shares of best of. I am one of those that wrote you about how I loved the complete series of stain glass windows the covers came from. They still are impressive.
DeleteI even have the Xavier Cugat album on mp3 where these two tracks are located.
DeleteSo, I will go ahead and make a 2 track Nutcracker Suite under Cugeys name. Then place it in my Nutcracker folder collection.
Plus you shared several other Nutcracker Suites this season too.
I think in the past, I got some of them from Buster and youself. Plus a few additions from mysels and ???
Again thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I think on of those two Cugie tracks from The King Plays Some Aces is a rerecording of something he did back in his days with Columbia. I don't remember exactly, but the older track would be in mono and probably on a 78.
DeleteSorry if you already know this but, if you have a scan of the album jacket, you can go to Google Translate, hit Image at the upper left, up load the image and it will translate it for you. https://translate.google.com/?sl=ja&tl=en&op=translate
ReplyDeleteYeah, I took a picture of it with my phone and read what it said. Didn't think that really helped any. :(
DeleteThe orchestra leader's bio is as follows, per wiki:
ReplyDeleteRafael Solano Sánchez (born 10 April 1931 in San Felipe de Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic) is a Dominican pianist, songwriter, composer, arranger, author, and former Dominican ambassador to UNESCO. He is credited with writing over a hundred songs of various genres that include romantic, folk, as well as choral, religious, and merengue music. His most famous love song, "Por Amor", has been translated into several languages and performed by renowned artists, such as Marco Antonio Muñiz, Vicki Carr, Jon Secada, the Mariachi Vargas, and Plácido Domingo.
So at least we know he was a real fellow. Thanks, Buster!
DeleteThank you, Ernie. I look forward to listening :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Deletei do like it. the last song is the best. many thanks Ernie
ReplyDeleteThanks for sticking around this long!
DeleteI don't think I have many Christmas albums from Dominican Republic- Thank you for keeping the sharing of interesting albums into February!
