Up The River

Here's another of the myriad of home-produced records I've been sharing with you all season long. Pretty sure we've seen this cover on any number of other records, too, maybe not this season but in the past. Not sure how to search for an image on the blog, but maybe I'll remember the name on one of those other records before this goes live and add it. Or maybe you'll know and you can tell me. In the meantime, here's another collection of Christmas tunes on the solo piano. This is Andrew Clarke-Christmas Improvisations (DIMA Records NR15106, Stereo). I think this is a Florida record, the recording studio is in Jacksonville. That's nowhere near me, but at least it's in the same state. Here's a link to another Jacksonville record I remember being very excited about when I found it some years ago.

1. Hark The Herald Angels Sing
2. O Come All Ye Faithful
3. What Child Is This?
4. Coventry Carol
5. Joy To The World
6. Christmas Medley
7. Good Christian Men Rejoice
8. We Three Kings
9. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
10. Joy To The World
11. The First Noel

  1. The cover reminds me of one of the Mickey Rooney Christmas LPs. This recording is MUCH more tolerable though.

    1. I think Rooney used this cover on one of the reissues of that LP. It's better than the one of him in his PJs, but only just. For what it's worth, I don't have any versions of it, so I have to make do with this one. :)

  2. maybe you have the Charlie Spivak ao the the Rick Hipple Duo albums in your stacks. They used this cover too, as per the Edge search engine.

    1. It's been used quite a bit, I'm sure there are some versions here in the archives, I just couldn't think of them when I made the post. Can't think of any right now, either, but I'm hoping someone will come up with a link. :)

  3. Wow Ernie,
I am not sure, but I guess this is what an electronic piano sounds like. Sure sounds like and organ or even a harpsichord. to me.
Anyway, now that i got that facetious comment out of the way, this sounds like a spirited collection from the few sound bites I have heard.
This album is jumping the queue in front of others awaiting their turn.

    1. Back in the early days of the electric pianos, I think some folks liked to pretend that they sounded just like the real thing (same as they used to pretend music from an acoustic 78 sounded just like the real thing). And we know that's not the case. But as long as you go into it expecting to hear that sound, I think it's good stuff.
