A Cartoon Christmas 15
Awful late in the day to find any cartoons on TV, but maybe I'll get lucky if I flip around for a while. What's this, some commercial for a toy dog that I can adopt? What a great idea! I wonder if they made a Christmas album for it? Why yes they did, and here's a copy of Pound Puppies-Pound Puppies Sing And Bark Jingle Bells And Other Christmas Favorites (Peter Pan/Tonka GT-13, Stereo, 1985). Tonka, the toy truck people? Clearly anyone can and did make a Christmas record during this period. Though I think they were a little devoid of ideas by the time they got to this one. I think they listened to The Singing Dogs doing Jingle Bells, and sort of took all their inspiration from there. You'll see.
1. Jingle Bells
2. Night Before Christmas
3. Frosty The Snowman
4. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
5. Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
6. We Wish You A Merry Christmas
7. Deck The Halls
8. My Favorite Things
9. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
10. Twelve Days Of Christmas
2. Night Before Christmas
3. Frosty The Snowman
4. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
5. Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
6. We Wish You A Merry Christmas
7. Deck The Halls
8. My Favorite Things
9. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
10. Twelve Days Of Christmas

Well, I can't say I've always wanted a whole album of the Singing Dogs, so I may not partake of this one.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to spend a lot of time watching bad cartoons when you could be out finding records.
I don't blame you for skipping it. :)
DeleteWell Ernie,
ReplyDeleteYou were right. This one is not a winner in my book. Someone had the nerve to produce and release it. I feel sorry for those poor children who got this as a gift, not really though.
Plus do we really need to hear a dog with nasal problems singing?
Yeah, it's not the best of the bunch. :(
DeleteErnie, you forced me to listen to this one...I guess no nightmares afterall, I hope...
DeleteWell my thoughts...
1. better than I thought it would be.
2. it is just a notch above those Smurfs.
3. it would have been a nice childrens record, if they only had done it as a non puppies album by singing and performing it straight.
4. me thinks, i hear fran drescher as one of those puppies.
Fran Drescher? Really? Huh, gonna have to research that...
DeleteI am currently watching, Living With Fran, on YouTube. It really is quite good.
DeleteI heard the Nanny was good. Never really saw that show. My neighbor really loved watching it, at least, the German version, or maybe it was in English? She had international internet?
Dunno, was never my thing. No info about her providing a voice for Pound Puppies out there on the internet that I could find.
DeleteThe voice actors on the 1985 Christmas album "Sing & Bark Jingle Bells (And Other Christmas Favorites)" include:
DeleteDan Gilvezan as Cooler
Ron Palillo as Scrounger
Alan Oppenheimer as Barkerville
Gail Matthius as Violet
Don Messick as Louie
Adrienne Alexander as Bright Eyes
Frank Welker as Howler
These actors contributed to the voice cast of the album.
Other than Don Messick, not a name in the bunch that I recognize.
DeleteWell the lone female, Gail, has an impressive catalog of work.
DeleteRon, Alan, Frank are well known voice actors, especially Frank.
Have you ever seen the Don Knotts film, How To Frame a Figg? If so, Frank plays his dim witted friend. One of the few live action films I think Frank made? I am too lazy to look it up.
Only Don Knotts movie I can remember is The Incredible Mr. Limpett. Oh, and maybe The Ghost And Mr. Chicken. I don't remember anything about either one.
DeleteI dared to take a listen, thought It'd be cute, but....ouch! 😖😆
ReplyDeleteYou can't say you didn't try.
