A Cartoon Christmas 14

Back home again and checking the channels for some more cartoons. Back up on the UHF station and they've got some old Popeye cartoons running. And wouldn't you know it, here's a Christmas album from one and the same! This is Popeye And Friends-Hear 4 Exciting Christmas Stories With Popeye And Friends (Peter Pan 8215, Stereo, 1977). This one says it features the original voice of Popeye, Jack Mercer. Sounds just like the guy on the TV, so I guess that's correct.

1. Christmas Pie
2. Pearlburgers
3. Deck The Halls
4. Santa Popeye

  1. I never would have believed there were so many of these cartoon Christmas LPs, even though I wasted much of my life chasing records myself!

    1. Popeye is frequently cited as one of the sources of the word "Jeep". No one has ever been able to pin it down exactly, but Popeye was popular enough that he's certainly one of the most important sources for its use.

    2. I've heard that, but don't know any of the finer details of the story.

  2. Hi Ernie,
Well I am going through these Cristmas cartoons from A - Z. I am currently in the middle of the Ps. I have seen some of the Popeye cartoons and enjoyed the theatrical versions over the TV ones. That being said, I liked this one a lot. It sure beat that Pac Man album.
Pound Puppies are next. I have no idea what or who they are, I want to be surprised. I hope it will be something of interest.
Oh, closing in of the S group, and Scooby Doo, yeah...

    1. I don't think you'll like the Pound Puppies, but Scooby is pretty good. :)

  3. I am holding myself back looking up these shares if I have no idea who they are. I want to be surprised. But Scooby Doo is a must. Even Scrappy Doo, who is a pain in the ass, is sometimes cute, but that Puppy Power, yikes.

I really would like to hear some other HB charaters in Christmas stories. I will check the Internet Archive. Maybe they have something.

    1. There are a few that I know of, but not many. Hanna Barbera wasn't around during the long span of Warner Bros and Disney cartoons, so they don't have the history of exploitation. But you can find things here and there. The Flintstones did a Christmas album with the music provided by Motown. Go figure...
