2022 At 78 RPM-Part 12

Time to make this an even dozen shares! And because of that, I'm going to share out a dozen tracks instead of the usual ten. Well, both because it's the twelfth share and the fact that I netted over 120 tracks from this months' 78 dump at Internet Archive! Certainly not all of those were new to the archive, but the new records frequently lead me down rabbit holes to find stuff I've missed in the past, so that probably contributed a little under half the total. I even managed to track down a few Chanukah shares which are really hard to find! But none of those in the pile today, just some great sides with some great looking labels, and for some strange reason, two versions of White Christmas. By the time I noticed that, it was too late to spend the time and energy to change it, so that's the way it is. Hope you're all enjoying the shares!

MEGA

No home improvements to report on lately, though I'm happy to report the old fridge is still running like a well-oiled machine, even with it's ugly barn door hinges. The new fridge money is sitting in the bank happily earning half a percent interest every year.

  1. This is quite a collection, Richard Tauber to the Korn Kobblers. Coincidentally, I am preparing a David Allyn post that includes that "Snowboard" record.

The IA folks seem to have deposited 6,000 78s this month. That's a haul. I have to start checking them out myself.

  3. Thanks, Buster! I love that Atomic label, it's from the very dawn of the atomic era, and appears to have been designed by someone who'd never seen a mushroom cloud, but they had the right idea.

Where are you seeing a number? I wasn't aware of any way to get stats from their page... It was quite the haul, that's all I know. I'll be forever getting it processed.

  4. I noticed they were at 402,000 earlier this week; they're now at 409,000 - so actually about 7,000 new items.

    There's a counter here:

  5. Looking forward to hearing the 2500 voice (?!?) Amercan Glee Club collective, and the George Hall Hotel Taft Orch w//Dolly Dawn is always welcome. Re; ye olde fridge, hey, if the seal is good and it runs, see how many months/years you can get out of it.

  7. Your life experiences (fridge, sink etc.) would make an excellent TV comedy script. By the way, you said you live in a condo. How the hell do you fit gazillions of 78 RPM records in a condo? LOL

  8. The 78s aren't mine, they're from the Internet Archive and their Great 78 Project. Hundreds of thousands of 78s ripped and scanned and shared. It's a great archive, but overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for. I'm working to bring some order to the Christmas side of the collection. :)
