Election 2020

I wasn't going to post anything before Thanksgiving this year, but I put together this playlist of stuff from The Internet Archive that I've really been enjoying, so why not share it hear with you folks. Not sure who might stumble across it before Election day in America this Tuesday, but hopefully it inspires you to go out and vote. It's all songs about elections, voting, politics, and in honor of this election cycle, a few songs about the post office. Lots of great stuff, here, including some comedy bits from Johnny Standley, Will Rogers, Yogi Yorgesson, even Amos & Andy (which I hope isn't too offensive to anyone). Fifties pop artists like Vaughn Monroe, Perry Como and Eddie Fisher are well represented, as well as some divas like Ella Fitzgerald and Sophie Tucker. Swing artists like Glenn Miller & Hal Kemp come in for a bit, and even a few Washington-titled instrumentals will get you into the dancing mood. Mamie Eisenhower's favorite The Three Suns join America's favorite The Sons Of The Pioneers in the list, as well as the daughter of Woodrow Wilson singing the Star Spangled Banner to raise money for The Red Cross in the oldest recording here.  It's a real hodge podge of stuff, and that's why I love it.  I hope you enjoy it as well.  Lemme know what you think in the comments, and maybe I'll do more of these themed collections throughout the year instead of just for Christmas.

  2. My favorite tracks keep changing. I forgot about the Louis Jordan. Thanks for the comments, and thanks for voting! The Sophie Tucker has the best double entendres of and voting song ever. And I forgot to put Santa Claus For President in this collection. :(

  7. Ernie, Somebody had to make this election day more tolerable and you've done it. My hat (not red or initialed "MAGA") is off to you. I found a few extra records that you and your regulars might enjoy. All but one are pro-Roosevelt.
    1) Slim Smith, Bread Line Blues, 1932
    2) Bill Cox, Franklin Roosevelt's Back Again, 1937
    3) Atilla the Hun, Roosevelt in Trinidad, 1937
    4) Fats Waller, We, The People, 1938
    5) Xavier Cugat, Viva Roosevelt!, 1941

  8. Thanks, David! Some good ones in there. I tried to stay away from the ones that were for a specific president, though, don't want to look too one-sided, you know. Pulled at least one out at the last second like that. Thought maybe I'd save it for a Presidents Day special in February.

  9. Thanks Ernie!
It'll take my mind off of the dramatic wait until we know who won.
Looks like a few days worth of tunes in here.

  11. Thanks Ernie - - nice collection. I especially liked the Presidential Handicap. Also, Yogi seemed to be having a hard time deciding which side to vote for. (Were they the A and B sides of the same disc?) Lots of fun here. Thanks again. Burt

I'm sure that's an issue on your end. You might try using a different browser.
