Cana-Day, Part 1

Time for a day-long tribute to our sister country due north, Canada! There's not a whole lot of difference between the music of the USA and that of Canada, most of the music that gets released in the US is also released north of the border. However, they have the added wrinkle of Quebec, a province where the official language is still French, so they have to provide product to those citizens in a language they want to hear. So they get lots of releases in French, some of which are native to Quebec and some of which are imported from France. Oh, they also have rules about what must be played on the radio. A certain percentage of the music played has to be of Canadian origin. You'll see little maple leaves with various letters on them that signify the specific Canadian content of a release. Not sure when they started that, but I think it's still going to this day. So the shares today should all qualify in some way, shape or form as Canadian content (except maybe the French imports, I'm not sure if that counts...). I'll start with a nice religious LP from the mighty RCA that says Canada right there on the front cover of the record. This is Richard Verreau Avec Les Disciples de Massenet-Charles Gouler, D.M., Directeur-Jeanne Martin à L'Orgue-À L'Église (Noëls et Chants Religieux) (RCA Victor Canada International "Classica" (Canada) CC-1003, Mono, 1959).

1. Venez, Divin Messie
2. Minuit, Chrétiens (Cantique de Noël)
3. Il Est Né, Le Divin Enfant
4. Ça, Bergers Assemblons-Nous
5. Dans Cette Étable
6. Les Anges Dans Nos Campagnes
7. Noël
8. Adeste, Fideles (Chant de Noël)
9. Gesu Bambino (Jésus Rédempteur)
10. Notre Père Qui Êtes Aux Cieux
11. Sancta Maria
12. Agnus Dei
13. Ave Maria
14. Ombra Mai Fu (de L'Opéra "Xerxes") (Largo)

  1. I went down a rabbit hole of Canadian Christmas music a while back and my wish list about doubled - can't wait to see what you're sharing today!

    1. It's a whole new ball game up there. May not be anything too new to you if you've been down that rabbit hole before though.

  2. Well, you've surprised me with almost every single share this year so I wouldn't be too sure about that!
