25 Days Of Christmas-Day 2
Here's the second track for my 25 Days Of Christmas collection. I grabbed this track (and one other) for someone over at FaLaLaLaLa who pointed out that it had been left off of the CD reissue of Johnny Mathis' 1963 Christmas album, Sounds Of Christmas. Well, it's too good of a track not to have it out there and listened to, so I've decided to add it to my little Christmas CD project here. He calls out John Glenn in here by name, so be sure to listen for it! Here is Johnny Mathis-Have Reindeer, Will Travel from Sounds Of Christmas (Mercury SR 60837, 1963). I believe this was also released as a single, the flip side of The Little Drummer Boy.

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to thank you for posting the Johnny Mathis tune "Have Reindeer, Will Travel" from the Sound of Christmas LP. I was curious if you had access to the single it was on the back of? (The Little Drummer Boy). I believe because the single was from 1963 and the song "The Little Drummer Boy" found on CD releases by Johnny was recorded in 1969 that Mathis must have two versions of it and I'd love to hear the earlier version. Thanks and thanks...Peace on Earth...to all...
bscore-Thanks for the note. I think I covered the story of the missing Johnny Mathis tracks over at FaLaLaLaLa. What I have is the original record on Mercury that featured all the tracks, instead of the Columbia reissues. But if it helps, here's a link to download both missing tracks:

It is tradition in our household that we play Have Reindeer Will Travel as we decorate the tree! I couldn't download it though, I got an error message...

Yeah, some of the individual downloads for the Christmas collection aren't out there anymore, but you can download two Johnny Mathis tracks from a link referenced in a comment above, or you can download the whole collection here:

I'm attending a Johnny Mathis Christmas show in November. If he does any sort of audience meet and greet (doubtful), I'll ask him why Have Reindeer will Travel hasn't been released on any of the many compilation CDs.
