The Ten Inchers Of Christmas-Part VIII

This next 10" record may look like the last one, but it's not. I think it was just put out by the same company using the same stock cover design. It's also pressed on fragile shellac but has survived in much better shape than the last one after all these years. I also realized that I shared this one back in 2010 but had forgotten all about it. That happens a lot as you can imagine. Right this second I can't remember what I shared yesterday. Good thing I have a blog and Google to keep track of it all. Anyhow, this is a remaster so it should sound better than ever. Have a download and a listen to Songs Of The Season 1960 (First Federal Savings And Loan Association Of East Chicago, Indiana 10" 33 RPM Shellac, 4628/4629, Mono, 1960). Oh, this is also from a small town in the Chicago area. Small world.

There's a Chanukah track on here, so I guess this counts as your Chanukah entry of the day. :)

  1. Hi Ernie, is it my imagination, or do a lot of Christmas albums, etc. come out of Chicago? I seem to see this city's name often in your write-ups.

    1. I believe a lot of people from Chicago and the surrounding areas have moved down to Florida over the year. And eventually they give their records away. And when I was in Chicago I was surprised to see that US Highway 41 went right through downtown and passes within a few miles of my house here in Florida. So before the major interstates were built, that was a straight drive from there to here.

  2. Ernie,
A ten-incher from 1960? I thought they had been totally fazed out by that time. And said ten-incher is on shellac? Kinda odd on all counts, but reckon that's how it was, for local outfits of these sort. Didn't Lee share one (or some) of these, a few years ago? Did they release one (or some) of these later, as twelve-inchers? Thanks for the Christmas oddities, prayin' for ya.

    1. The 10 inch records had certainly peaked well before this time, but they were still around. Being on shellac is certainly a rarity though. I bet this small local company had some old equipment and supplies they were trying to use up and sold these pressings cheaply.

    3. Yes, two different records from two different communities around Chicago.

  4. I remember reading Jean Shepherd's story, "The Star-Crossed Romance Of Josephine Cosnowski", where he talks about how he and his friends thought the most exotic and alluring girls were Polish girls from East Chicago. He was so excited to find out Josephine Cosnowski was "...a Polish girl. From East Chicago!" And she lived in the old Bumpus house, right next door!
