Singles Sunday #7-Extra Creepy

The next single up is a companion piece to a share from last year, another Christmas song about Elvis! This one ups the creepy factor though, as it's meant to be sung by Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie.  It's bad enough that she'd recently lost her father, but for someone to claim to be singing for her, that's a bit much in my book.  I always thought Jana Sampson was a little girl, but I'm not so sure.  If she is, then the flipside duet is even more creepy than the A-side.  If she's full-grown, then the B-side is actually pretty good, and could have been a hit, maybe with a small re-write, but still a minor hit.  If any of that sounds interesting, please download Jana Sampson-(Merry Christmas) From Lisa Marie b/w Jana Sampson & Randall Parr-(We've Got) Christmas On Our Mind (Rock-It Record Co. 7" 45 RPM RI-501, Stereo, 1979).  Am I the only one who thinks both this label name and design rip-off Elton John?

  1. Nope, my first thought (beyond "hey, the label art is kinda fun') was "wow, if they had actually had any commercial success Elton's label would have sued the pants off of them." Birds of a feather...

  2. Well, considering it is from Deer Park, TX...

For those of you who don't know, Deer Park is a part of the greater Houston area, a small town with not a lot of deer and a whole lot of oil refineries. If you know what Pasadena means (and not CA, either), well, that's Deer Park.
