Christmas, Island Style

Here's a great share from last year that I know you'll want to grab. And it's got an awesome cover as well. I thought maybe this was the only LP these guys put out, but I recently came across another, non-holiday, LP from them on the same label. There's not much more I can say about this album that you can't infer from the cover, so why don't you go download The Surfers-Christmas From Hawaii (HiFi R410, 1959).

Update (13 Oct 08): This one is now available as a legal download! So go get it! Here's a link to Amazon, but it's also available elsewhere.

  1. Thanks for the avalanche of Christmas goodies. I love Hawaiian Christmas music. Indeed, I finally tracked down the first recording of "Mele Kalekmaka." Was it you who posted the Ray Charles Singers album, "Winter Wonderland," last year? It is one of the best seasonal choral albums I have ever heard and I hope you repost it. Also, do you have Wayne King's excellent Christmas album made for Decca around 1961? Thanks. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

  2. Hi David-Who did the first Mele Kalekimaka? Every time I see a Hawaiian LP, I pick it up to see if it's on there, but it never is. Odd that it's not something that gets thrown in once in a while.

Yes, I shared out two LPs by The Ray Charles Singers last year. The shares should still be good if you want to search the archives. I'll get around to featuring them again this year sometime soon. I think I have another Christmas LP of theirs, or at least some tracks from a various artists thing. But that's going to have to wait for another day...

Wayne King came from FaLaLaLaLa. Check over there for a repost, I think they were talking about that the other day.

  3. Ernie -- this has been taken down!! How is that possible, it's out of print? I'm so disappointed...I was looking forward to it (I had been locked out before and was waiting). What a shame...do let us know if you get a chance to do it again!!
