Next From Capitol

Following on with Capitol Records and their 10" albums, here is a nice one from The Sportsmen, or The Sportsmen Male Quartette, or The Sportsmen Male Quartet, lots of different names for these guys on the album.  But whatever you want to call them, they sings some nice Christmas carols.  Give a listen to The Sportsmen Quartet With Hammond Organ-Carols At Christmas (Capitol 10" 33 RPM H-9005, Mono, 1949). Sorry about the little bit of tape at the top and bottom, I couldn't do much about that.  And yes, this one opens to the left as well.

1. Wassail, Wassail
2. We Three Kings Of Orient Are
3. Away In A Manger
4. Good King Wenceslaus
5. O Little Town Of Bethlehem
6. Silent Night

  1. Yeah, I did this one, too, a number of years ago, and I think mine opens to the left as well.

Record companies - Capitol in particular - couldn't decide where to put the opening on their early LPs. I have LPs that open on the top, too. I surprised they didn't try a bottom opening.

Capitol and Mercury and perhaps others also used thin envelopes with flaps in place of the cardboard covers on some LPs.

  2. Sorry if I'm stepping on your toes too much. :)

I don't see those envelope style sleeves very often.
