Christmas With Granny

I remember being so excited back in 2010 when I posted this that I took the rest of the week off, leaving it up there as the first post on the blog for a long time so that no one would miss it.  Since that time, I've come to think a little bit less of it, but not much.  I've tried to get a stereo copy, but to no avail.  The last one I went after on eBay shot up to $85 or so pretty quickly, and that was during the off-season.  I stumbled across a mono copy just a week or so ago and thought about remastering it for this season, but I think I'm going to hold out a little while longer.  There's bound to be a stereo copy out there somewhere with my name on it, I just have to find it.  If you don't know who Grandma Moses was, then shame on you.  You'll have to read up on her in the gatefold I so painstakingly scanned from the album.  I can see that I did it on the old office copier that was badly in need of some calibration and adjustment at the time, but it's good enough that you'll get the gist of things.  And someday I'll rescan that stereo copy I'm going to find.  And now, without further ado, here is Christmas With Grandma Moses (RCA Victor LOP-1009, Mono, 1958).

  1. Good luck with the stereo copy - wish I had one myself.

I've thought about offering this on my blog, but you've already done it, and I don't have the patience to scan all that stuff!

  2. You got your hardware working yet? I know you've had issues lately.

  3. I'm afraid to try it, although I swapped out the turntable and ADC, so it ought to work.

My technology is going to hell generally. My internet speed has cratered and my Apple AirPort contraption is misbehaving. My Apple Watch is malfunctioning, too.

I think these are what people call "first-world problems."

  4. I have no idea what is meant by first world problems, but I've heard that term. Meanwhile, thanks for this one again!

  6. I downloaded this when you first shared it, and it has become a tradition to listen to during the holiday season. And this year? I added the LP to my collection!

  9. Well, it's a picture of a Stereo copy, but if you read the description, they give the catalog number of a Mono copy. Classic bait and switch! :(

  10. We have this growing up, likely the mono version, so thank you for offering this. I can't wait to listen to it!

  11. I have a stereo copy now, had it for a year or two now, but I've been too lazy to rip it. :( Someday...

  12. Ernie, when you do rip the stereo copy, can you give us 320 bit mp3s or even flac files? Thanks!
