A New Way

Several years ago, I brought you the great LP you see above. Nobody had really heard of it, but it was a really great album of Christmas music and everybody who listened to it agreed. (Well, at least everybody who left comments.) Couple years later, I heard from Robert Way himself, and he thanked me for sharing his music with the world, and wanted to let me know that after a long career outside the music world, he had returned to making music. You can check out his new music here. Earlier this year, the boys over at WFMU's Beware of the Blog shared out another LP of Robert Way's work while he was with WEZE in Boston. That post reminded me that I needed to share this great LP with you again. I re-ripped it last year to get better sound, having found a cleaner copy of the LP in the meantime, and I re-scanned the cover to get a more faithful representation of what it looks like. Then in all the hubbub of the 2007 sharing season, I forgot to share it. So I am proud to present this updated version of Robert Way Orchestra And Chorus-New England Sleigh Ride-Music For The Christmas Season (Fleetwood FCLP3023 for Mobile Oil, Stereo).

1. New England Sleigh Ride
2. Christmas With You
3. We Three Kings Of Orient Are
4. Everything Says Christmas Is Here
5. Away In A Manger
6. Up On The Housetop
7. Jingle Bells
8. Silent Night
9. Christmas Is Glowing
10. Snowflakes On The Windowpanes
11. O Come, O Come Emmanuel
12. God Touched The Earth

Update Oct 2009: Looks like Robert Way is in the process of remastering and re-releasing this on CD, so head on over there and get a copy of this great music from the man who created it!

  1. Howdy Ernie(not Bert),
Thank you so very much for posting this! I have the LP of this, it had belonged to my Dad, and it's still in wonderful shape. And, yes, I'm originally a New Englander from the tiny town of Dudley, Massachusetts. Stuff like this brings back warm memories of Christmases past. Thanks for the info. about the great Robert Way too! I know my Dad is smiling down at us because of this great share. I appreciate all you do on this blog. Thanks for spreading all the good Christmas cheer!
A New Englander misplaced in Texas,

  4. This is a great album that I have somehow missed early on.

Funny, at times the voices sound vaguely reminiscent of the Caroleers to me. I wonder if there is a connection?

Thanks for (re)(p|h)osting this great album. It sure is neat to read Mr. Way's posts, too!

  5. Well this is it. I have been enjoying many of the great posts you have offfered here but with every Christmas blog I visit, this is the album I have been searching for since the 80's. Because I couldn't remember the exact name or artist(s) it was tough, even e-Bay was useless. But after all these years, here it is thanks to you! I listened to this as a kid and especially remember the rich vocals and somewhat unique harmonies that impressed me back then in the late 60's (I believe it was). We Three Kings was the first one I rushed to listen to just to be sure this was the album I was looking for. It is and I am extremely grateful for this and all the beautiful music you have rejuvenated. I am a relatively new blogger but recently added a couple of rough but unusual Christmas singles to my site if you are interested. Otherwise, thanks again for the early Christmas present, it's a beauty!

  6. Ernie,

As always thank you for the posts you have shared over the years. Also, thank you for the updates when these bad boys become available again. Please keep us posted as to when Robert actually makes it available. I just went to the sight and it still says early fall.

    Thank you,
    Tom in Troy, MI.
