More Marion
I try to keep an eye on many of the other blogs out there posting Christmas music this time of year, and I try not to post the same stuff that you can get elsewhere. Sometimes that happens anyway, but sometimes I get lucky and I can post something that actually compliments what you get elsewhere. That's the case here. If you head on over to A Christmas Yuleblog, you can download Marion Anderson-Christmas Carols. (Tell 'em Ernie sent you, you'll get a discount on all your free downloads.) So I'm gonna share out the 10" record you see above, Marion Anderson Sings Christmas Carols With Franz Rupp At The Piano (RCA Victor Red Seal 10" 33 RPM LM 7008, Mono). Entirely different recording from a few years earlier than the Captain's share. So how's that? Double your pleasure, double your fun!
1. Silent Night
2. Oh! Little Town Of Bethlehem
3. Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful)
4. The First Noel

8. Hallelujah
Ernie,
ReplyDeleteSide 1 songs were recorded 1-19-1951, side 2 songs were recorded
4-10-1951 all at RCA Studio #2 in New York City.
Very historic, very early Christmas album. Thank you for everything.

Thanks for the info! I think I saw that somewhere when I was researching this record, but then I also saw a 1954 date. Perhaps these were issued as singles at one time, then later collected onto one of the new-fangled vinyl records. I don't think RCA issued long players until later, once they gave up the fight for speed supremecy over the 33 RPM LP. Just a thought...
ReplyDeleteErnie,
ReplyDeleteYou may be correct. There is similar situation with another RCA Victor performer: Perry Como's 1951 album "Merry Christmas Music" contained recordings from 1946.
