Request Lines Are Open

Hello out there! I hope everyone is enjoying the shares. I see lots of downloads, but no one is leaving any comments. Not that you have to, but it makes a bloggers heart warm to get little notes now and again. I shouldn't say that I've gotten no comments, but I haven't gotten many. And the ones that I have gotten are very much appreciated. But the reason for this post is to try and get a little more feedback. It's still early in the season, and there is plenty of time to maybe get some requests in here. Everything I post is from my own personal record collection, and my own rips, but maybe there is something in my collection that you'd like to hear. Just leave me a comment, and I'll see what I can do. I certainly don't have copies of every Christmas record ever released, and a lot of what I have is stuff that no one is going to want to listen to, but maybe. I'm willing to throw the door open to suggestions. Better to make your requests now than in the waning days of December. I do have a few other things I need to do besides work on this blog...

Oh, don't forget the rules. It has to be something that's out of print. That means you can't go to Best Buy and get it, or order it online from somewhere, or even download it from iTunes. And lately, that rules out a lot of stuff. So please don't ask me for any of those things, I'm just going to have to tell you no.

  1. I'm having a ball downloading and listening to your holiday musical offerings. How about Slim Boyd and the Rangehands, "Go Tell It On The Mountain"? Thanks for sharing all your efforts. E III

  2. Thanks Dad! Didn't I already give you a copy of that LP two or three years ago? I'll have to go find it again...

  3. Great site! Love what you have been uploading so far!

I was wondering if you had the Kay Martin Christmas album? Cheers!

  4. Hi Ernie,

I've been lurking here for the past couple of months, ever since I found the link on FaLaLaLaLa.

I admit to having thoroughly feasted and gorged myself and stuffing my music downloads file full of albums from your blog on Thanksgiving that I have yet to explore. I went through all your archives looking for all the re-upped material and downloaded every single thing available!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Ernie!!!

There were just a few items that I wasn't able to download because they appear not to have been re-upped.

    They are:

Electric Christmas-The Moog Machine (posted November 25, 2005)

    A Crackerjack Christmas-The Sandpipers (posted December 25, 2005)

The Christmas 2006 Preview (posted July 31, 2006)

And the two "Chanukah in August" posts (August 1 and 2, 2006)...I'm trying to compile and burn a cd of all of the Chanukah music I can get my hands on for a Jewish friend who complains there's not enough Chanukah holiday music.

I also wasn't able to download Day-25 of Christmas in July, but was able to do so today. Did I miss anything else you've reupped since Thanksgiving Day?

I'm also enjoying all the doodles and all your outstanding and very prolific beautiful photography as well!

    -David

  5. Ernie,

I just came across your blog last night and was I excited! I was able to download my most treasured album from my youth... Christmas Surprises with the Ralph Hunter Choir.

I've already bunred copies and sent them to my brothers.

  6. I have some requests:
    Eddie Dunstedter "Christmas Candy"
The Ralph Hunter Choir "Christmas Surprises With The Ralph Hunter Choir"
    Jimmy Roselli "The Christmas Album"
Billy Vaughn "Have Yourself A Merry, Merry Christmas"
"Christmas Holidays At Radio City Music Hall"...I don't think there are any "legit" reissues of it as far as I'm concerned.

  7. I could swear that I posted a response here, but now it's gone. Figures... Anyhow, let me try again...

Kay Martin-Don't have it, but wish I did. I held it in my hands once, but it was at the record store where if you have to ask, you can't afford it. Someone posted the first side (side two is just dated stand-up) over at FaLaLaLaLa, but I think the link is expired. You might try over there and re-request it.

  8. Well, at least it's accepting my own comments now. That's a start.

David-Wow, you've really spent some time here at the blog, haven't you? I noticed that someone had downloaded all but one of the Christmas in July shares, and sure enough, when I checked that one, I had forgotten to update the URL. As you found out, is better now. I went and uploaded the Christmas teaser, but you should be getting all those complete LPs during the month here anyway. I also uploaded the two Chanukah tracks, one of which is really good, the other so-so. I can let you in on a little secret if you promise not to tell: There's a whole Chanukah LP slated for sharing 'round these parts, so keep an eye out for it! As far as The Moog Machine and Crackerjack Christmas, I'm stumped. I shared them with the world, then lost them. So I'm rerecording them as we speak, or type, I guess. I know the recording of Christmas Becomes Electric will be better, because I have since found a cleaner copy. Stay tuned for those. I'm thinking of ripping the whole LP that I got Crackerjack Christmas from, too. I remember it being Christmas morning and needing some last little something to share, and that's why you only got the one song that day. Check back soon...

  9. Rob-Glad you like the Ralph Hunter record. That's still one of my favorites. Oddly enough, the comment right after yours is from someone asking me to share it out. Sometimes I wonder...

Kevin-Thanks for the comment. As I mentioned above, I've already shared the Ralph Hunter record. Eddie Dunstedter-Christmas Candy was from FaLaLaLaLa, and will probably be reshared over there. I originally shared out his other two Christmas releases to complement the LP over there. I'm not a big fan of Billy Vaughn, I tried to listen to it, but it didn't excite me. Sorry. The Jimmy Roselli is on the short list for sharing this year, though. I finally got hold of a stereo copy, so stay tuned for that one. Christmas At Radio City is out on CD, I believe. Mine is but a mono copy, so it doesn't sound as good as it should. I think I will report that cover though. It's truly awe-inspiring!

Thanks again for all the comments and requests folks! Keep 'em comin'.

  10. I have another request:
    "Merry Christmas To You!"
    (Capitol T-9030)

  11. Kevin-I've got that LP sitting right here, and it's really good. However, most, if not all, of the tracks are available on CD. So you may have to buy a few CDs, but I'm pretty sure you could make this up yourself. I'll probably throw up the artwork at some point though, 'cause I really dig that Santa Claus.

  12. ernie,

I appreciate all the work you do here on the site. Vinyl rips are a labor of love and it's great to get a chance to hear some of these unknown gems.

As far as requests, I've been trying to locate a copy of Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm Singing Songs Of Christmas. You wouldn't happen to have a copy of that one in your vast archives, would you?

Looking forward to another year's worth of xmas surprises,

    -sharxfan

  13. Thank you, thank you Ernie. I have spent more hours than I care to admit trying to find the "Voices of Christmas, Voices of Walter Schumann" album that you had - I am grateful. We had all loved it as kids and have been looking for it.

You don't have one called The Holly and the Ivy - by The Gentle Power of Song and Gabrieli Brass and Martin Stryke, do you?

Thanks so much - I have downloaded several and there are some great songs.

  14. Sharxfan-Thanks for the comments. As far as a Pebbels and Bam-Bam Christmas, I'm afraid I'm at a loss. I've never heard of such. I know there was a Hanna-Barbera Christmas LP shared out over at Check The Cool Wax, but it was instrumental only. And there were a couple of Christmas tracks on a Flintstones soundtrack CD that Rhino had out at one time, but I don't think either of those had anything to do with Pebbles or Bam-Bam. Sorry I can't help you. But if you find it, send it my way, it sounds great! Yabba-dabba-doo!

SusanH-That Walter Schuman is great, isn't it? I'm afraid I haven't heard of that other LP you mentioned. I'll keep an eye out, though. Thanks for the comment!

  17. Dave W-Yes, actuallly, there is more big band stuff coming up. I found some great stuff in the past year that fits quite nicely into that vein, so stay tuned! Thanks for the comment!

Yo Philly! You've been neglecting your blog lately. You'd better get busy and start posting some stuff over there for me to download. You were doing really good there for a while. Anyhow, thanks for the comment. I'm glad I inspired you. You've put up some nice stuff in the past year. I wish I had that Three Suns LP. Somehow it has always eluded me. Here in a few days I'm going to throw up all of the Three Suns stuff that I do have, and it's a whole pile. I'm also missing one single from way back in the day, but other than those two releases, I think I have their Christmas catalog covered! Stay tuned!

  18. I have some requests:
"Frank Sinatra & His Friends Want You To Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"
    Domenic Savino "Hi-Fi Christmas Party"

  19. Well, you know what I'm going to ask for! King Family Christmas! *g*

  20. Hay AuK-I already shared out the King Family stuff. Do a search through the archives. You should find two full albums (with some overlap between them , I believe) and a single track by one of the kids. I've re-uploaded all the shares from last year, so have a good look around.

  21. Ernie:

You've fulfilled my wish with "The Merriest of Christmas Pops", but if I had any others to wish for, they'd include Pipes & Chimes of Christmas by Buddy Cole, Everybody's Christmas Favorites by Sy Mann, Merry Christmas from the Hillside Singers, The Christmas Songbook by Stu Phillips, Christmas in Hollywood by Plas Johnson, and A Merry Christmas! by Stan Kenton.

But, like I said, you've already fulfilled my wish. Thanks again!

  22. I just found this, but it's great! I have one request...I know it's older than most of what you do, and I'm sure it's rare...but it must be great!! Eddie Cantor was the first person to sing "Here Comes Santa Claus." I would LOVE to hear any recording there is of him singing it, or him singing any other Christmas songs. Thanks so much for whatever you can do about that--and for all the other stuff you've already done!!

  23. Hello Ernie!! You have worked so hard to make everyone's holiday special! Thank-You!!
I have some requests. Do you have anymore Caroleer albums to download? I just downloaded Rudolph and T'was the night before christmas. I also noticed that you had a variety of their different album covers, do you have those albums available for download? You have really made my Christmas Ernie!! Thank-You!!
    Have a Great Christmas!!

  24. Ernie, do you have Woodwinds & Percussion by Hal Mooney? I love his version of "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm", which I'd love to hear again. He's also got versions of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Holiday For Strings" on that album.

  25. great stuff - how about some over the top sexy stuff :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry I haven't been keeping up too well with all the requests. You guys want some great stuff! I only wish I had it all. Whoever was looking for sexy stuff, click on over to FaLaLaLaLa and search for Mae West and Kay Martin. Both LPs have been shared out over there, and you aren't going to find anything much better unless Eartha Kitt does a whole Christmas LP. What else...Eddie Cantor-Don't have it, wish I did. Hal Mooney? Doesn't ring a bell... More Caroleers? Maybe, don't know yet. There's so much great stuff to share!

  27. I am thrilled to have found your site. One of the posts mentioned The Voices of Walter Schumann and I have been looking everywhere for Christmas Gift. Thank you for making these things available. Happy Holidays

  28. I have the Pebbles and Bamm Bamm Christmas album from way back, and really want it on a CD. Does anyone know how to do this or where I could get it done? Thank you,Dana

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dana-All the albums you see here on the site are things I recorded from scratchy old vinyl Drop me an email and maybe we can work something out about that Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm record.

  30. Hi Ernie (not Bert), How do I email you? Yesterday's post of mine was the first time I'd been here so I'm not sure how anything works other than posting like this :)

  31. Dana-There should be a little About Me link of the front page. But I've found that it doesn;t show up for everyone for some reason. You can reach me at ernienotbert(at)gmail(dot)com
