Tijuanabee Six

Last post of the season and last post in our series of Tijuanabees today, this record is perhaps the most common of the Christmas Herb Alpert ripoffs I see in the racks at thrift stores. Pretty sure even my parents had a copy when I was growing up, though I never paid any attention to it at the time. And curiously enough, all the tracks are instrumental versions of ten of the songs from that last Tijuanabee share by Tijuana Voices. I guess they were saving money by releasing two different versions of the same thing under two different names. Nothing that a budget label does surprises me anymore. But what of the other two songs that are missing here, why didn't they get included to make a slightly longer record? I have no idea, such things are beyond me. But if you want to listen while you pontificate such important questions, this is The Border Brass-Tijuana Christmas (Design DLPX-18/SDLP-X-18, Stereo, 1967). And that's the end of the 2023 Christmas season. Happy Epiphany or Three Kings Day or whatever you want to call it. It's the twelfth day of Christmas and I'm very tired. It's been a great season and I appreciate all the kind comments and cards and check-ins I've gotten from so many of you. I probably won't see you until Christmas in July, or maybe Christmas-and-a-Half, but we'll see. Until then, remember to keep Christmas in your heart all year 'round! Ciao!

  1. Thank you so much, It's been a Great season... You make it that much better, Ernie. Now, I have to work on all the downloads, and put them into the correct labels, genre, etc... As of always, constantly working on Christmas. You added over 3000 tracks to my playlist :)

    2. You are awesome, but... I noticed, that two of your Christmas Tease tracks by "Stanley Adams And The Chicken Flickers" & "The Phil Woods Quintet" - you didn't share the albums, but that's alright - Ernie
Maybe, you'll share them in Christmas in July?

    3. Those albums turned out to have been reissued and available for legit download or on CD. I try to stay away from things that are available and who's purchase can benefit the artist (or their record company...).

    2. Sure was. Actually saw another copy of this last week at a thrift store--the Mono version! I was given a Stereo copy by a friend of mine in 2019.

  4. Thanks again for another great season! Weirdly, I enjoy these Tijuanabee albums better than the actual TJB Christmas Album.

  10. Hi Ernie, thank you for all your hard work. You truly did a lot of it. Enjoy you much needed rest and relaxation.
While, I have not listened to them yet, thank you for sharing more Tijuanabee's.
The Christmas before my mother's unexpected death, I bought her the only Tijuana Brass album she did not own.
We only had 2 soundtracks, 2 Christmas, and those Tijuana Brass albums in our home, and no recorded player. My eldest sister was the only one that had a recorded player, so I have no idea why my parents had these albums. But I have always enjoyed The Tijuana Brass. But I still believe Herb Alpert was only passable as a trumpet player, but he made good playing it.
So, I am sure I will enjoy listening to these too.

    2. Thanks for the kind words. They have. I got teary eyed listening to them. I sought out my The Tijuana Brass CDs, and cuddled under a blanket on the sofa. I needed a good cry, especially at Christmas time.

  16. Thank you very much for a wonderful Christmas season of music Ernie!!! You did a masterful job of bringing old vinyl to like again. I am sure you are one of the major reasons record companies are finally revisiting and remastering the wonderful things we listened to as children.

  26. Hi Ernie, in case you are wondering on a theme for next year, here is a suggestion. If you have any of these types of things in your vast collection, it could be an idea.
Department/Retail Stores, Gas/Service/Automobile Stations, Grocery Stores, Record Clubs, etc. I know you have offered a few in the past. Some, I have collected.
The reason I suggest this is because I just typed in Firestone and only one item came up. They seem to have released special Christmas sets.
I have various folders of these things already; they all seem to have been released in the 1960s and early 1970s. These sets seem to me at least like Greatest hits packages. All the ones you offered this year, I am sure I have downloaded already.
Maybe, if you have others to share, you could offer as one a day, or just a link to a past share.
But I will continue to search your blog for others I have missed in the last few years.

    1. I have plenty of them, but most consist of tracks you can find elsewhere, and as legal downloads. I try not to get into them. The bonus William Loose/Hollywood Symphony stuff was cherry picked from a lot of those this season.
