Winter (& Spring & Summer & Autumn)

Here it is, the one you've been waiting for probably since 2005 when I first shared out this record. This is a great collection of songs with a winter theme, not necessarily Christmas, but there are plenty of songs here that fit right into your holiday celebration.  There's nothing I can say about this that hasn't been said earlier, probably by me sometime over the past seven years, but here it is in what I hope is better sound, higher bitrate, better scan, etc, etc, etc.  Please enjoy The Ray Charles Singers-Winter Wonderland (MGM E3387, Mono, 1956).

1. Winter Wonderland
2. Button Up Your Overcoat
3. June In January
4. When Winter Comes
5. Snowfall
6. I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm
7. Winter & Theme For Indoor Sports
8. Moonlight In Vermont
9. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
10. When Winter Comes A-Callin'
11. Jingle Bells
12. By The Fireside

And now, just to show you my heart's in the right place, how would you like the rest of the set, for the first time ever around these parts?  That's right, I finally got around to ripping the other seasonal albums that Ray and the gang put out between 1954 and 1957.  They're not all that rare, but having all four of them in one place to record and scan them always seemed to be a challenge to me.  So get 'em while they're hot.  I know they're not Christmas, but you can hold onto them until the appropriate season.  Up first is The Ray Charles Singers-Spring Is Here (MGM E3162, Mono, 1956).

Next up is a collection of summer songs.  The Ray Charles Singers-Summertime (MGM E3529, Mono, 1957).  More of the same, really.

And last but not least is their ode to Fall, the season so nice, they named it twice.  The Ray Charles Singers-Autumn Nocturne (MGM E3145, Mono, 1954).  You have no idea how hard it was for me to tear myself away from the Christmas music long enough to finish up the details on these non-Christmas records.  I recorded them back near the beginning of the year, but I sat down tonight and did all the artwork.  I hope you enjoy the music.

PS-Don't forget that The Ray Charles Singers had an honest-to-goodness Christmas album that I shared out in a remastered version earlier this year.  Also, sometime in the midst of the run of these records, they also issued a collection of French songs.  I have it, but I haven't recorded or even listened to it.  Sorry.

  1. Yes, this remastered version is one I've been waiting for since you shared Here We Come A-Caroling. I will listen to their other seasonal offerings too. Thanks Ernie!

  3. Thanks so much, Ernie. I see these every once in a while but never pick them up because I can't remember which ones I own (they look alike).

  5. Wow Ernie, as I probably mentioned a year or 2 back, your 2005 share of this is what led me to discover your blog, and even if I never enjoyed another note of music you offered, I'd still be forever grateful you shared this. The essential childhood Christmas nostalgia music for me, I tried for years to clean up the sound on my parents' hopelessly gouged and mauled lp. I'd have paid a pretty penny for a legitimate rerelease, so I still feel so lucky you found it and put it out there. And now you present this gorgeous remaster and all the other seasons, too! The happiest surprise of the season. Also, I'd not tried your torrent links til now, and you'd asked back at the start of the sharing season, for our feedback. Worked great. I know I've already wished you and your loved ones a great holiday season, but you're just going to have to accept my wishes again. :) Mike

  6. Thanks so much Ernie. This is probably my first time commenting, but I've visited your blog off and on for several years. Just wanted to let you know how delighted I am to have all four of these albums at once. Have a very Merry Christmas and thanks so much for the work you do.

  8. Ernie, You have earned a comfortable berth in download heaven for this quartet of albums celebrating the seasons by the Ray Charles Singers. I have already listened to them all, then repeated "Autumn Nocturne." I find all are equally wonderful. Somebody should put the foursome out as a 2-CD set, but that won't likely happen (although I note that "Winter Wonderland" has been reissued in download-only format in England three times since 2010; if you live, as I do, in one of the country's former colonies, you're out of luck). In any case, bless you for this loving, lovely largesse.

  13. In the immortal words a classic UK commercial for Ferrero Rocher from the 90's, "Ooh monsieur...with these (Ray Charles Singers rips) you are spoiling us." (said with a haughty French accent)
You really are the best, Ernie!

When you get a chance, email me back with your mailing address...
