A Cartoon Christmas 7
That classic Bugs Bunny got me in the mood for some more of the olde classics. I lied when I said we only got three channels, there's actually a fourth one, but it's way up high on the UHF dial and I've got to spin a different knob on the Magnavox to get there. Doesn't always come in, but maybe I'll get lucky today. It's an independent channel, no network affiliation, so they play odd shows, most of which are really old. Looks like today they're playing some old Bozo the Clown, so we'll tune into that for a few minutes. Give this is a listen, it's Larry Harmon as Bozo The Clown-Bozo's Christmas Sing Along (Little World Records LW-912, Mono, 1966). This one got a later reissue on Peter Pan where it had a tear-off Christmas decoration as part of the front cover. I got unreasonably excited at a local record shop recently when I found a copy that included a minty version of that decoration. There's a scan in the download.

I was at ground-zero for the explosion of Bozo popularity circa 1950, so I should be insulted by your characterization of the phenomenon as "really old." But with the thought of you getting excited by a Bozo ornament in the record store, all was forgiven.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but anything older than me is really old. But there are now three or four generations who put me and stuff into that same 'really old' category...
DeleteOkay, Buster is older than me. You're not "old", you're classic!
DeleteYes, classic sounds about right.
DeleteJeepGuy - Thanks, but I am more like a classical ruin.
ReplyDeleteThere are classical ruins still around after 2500 years. You're in good company!
DeleteThe Peter Pan version is the one that I have in my collection; was given to me last year by the parents of a friend of mine in a grab-bag of albums.
ReplyDeleteThat one seems to be a lot more common. Hard to find one in decent shape though, kids played these things to death.
