15-Santa Claus Is A Black Man

Time for another great collection of Christmas singles, all recorded from the original 7" 45 RPM records. Today it's a great collection of African American artists with a special emphasis on a small handful of singles that emphasize the Christmas experiences of Black people in America. These songs include Santa Claus Is A Black Man, Black Santa Claus and Christmas Confessions. I'm sure there are more, but those were the only ones I had in my collection for sharing. 3. Did not know that Lloyd Price wrote and recorded a Christmas tune! Pretty good from what I have listened to thus far. And I also have an original 45 of "Santa Baby" in my collection as well; it was given to me by a friend of mine as part of a large Christmas present in 2016. And I forgot about the Satchmo Christmas tune included here; I believe it was included as a bonus cut on the recent CD reissue of Louis Armstrong and His Friends. Great Earl Grant Christmas tune: don't think it was on his Christmas album. Lots of good ones here! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Chock full of goodies, I think. :) Flip side of the Lloyd Price is coming up, it's a New Year's song. Satchmo unfortunately isn't very good, especially considering the other Christmas stuff he did. And yes, the Earl Grant is a non-album single. Both sides are excellent, but this is the better of the two. Same writer on both sides, too.

  4. Great Christmas compilation Ernie! Love the Lloyd Price tune "Merry Christmas Mama". And Kurtis Blow gives us a gem. Great variety and depth of songs so far in this one!

    1. I think bill Cosby recorded a song called Merry Christmas Mama, I should check to see if it's the same song. And I think the Kurtis Blow is better in the 12" format, but that's not what we're celebrating this season. :)
