Presents For Christmas

In a shameless bit of begging, here's a link to my Discogs wantlist. It's chock full of Christmas singles that I've never heard, or even some that I've heard and liked enough to want a hard copy. Lots of records with a single Christmas track, and even a few Christmas albums that I haven't tracked down yet. And a few non-Christmas records that I thought were neat and added to the list.  Maybe you have one of these laying around and want to send it to me...you know...just sayin'...Christmas is coming. :) I need to go through and clean it a bit, some things I may have already found. But I tend to add more stuff to it than I remove, so it's ever-growing.

  1. That's quite a want list! After looking at it, I went looking for a cheap copy of the Dragnet LP and ended up buying six records (including a beater of the Jack Webb album). Almost as much fun as going to a record store!

  2. Fun, until you see the cost of shipping. That's what always throws me off. Did you get the Pete Kelly Blues album? I'm not sure why there are two, one on WB, one on Columbia. I suppose I should look that up, but it's Christmas time, and my thoughts are elsewhere. :)

  3. Hi Ernie-

I didn't see it on your wishlist, but do you already own a copy of the 'Capitol Of The World' sampler album "'Round The World Christmas", with the ornaments on the cover? It doesn't come up on a quick google search of your previous blog posts...

  4. Hi Pete! Yes, I have that one, and I may actually have two different covers for it, one much later than the other. I tried to find it in the archive a couple years ago when I was trying to share out some of those Capitol Of The World Christmas albums, but I couldn't lay my hands on it at the time. I recently put a lot of records into storage and consolidated a lot of the Christmas records onto the same shelves, and I think I properly filed it then. I assume you saw the promo Fred Waring-narrated introduction to the series I shared a few years back? That's a really great sampler, though it's only on the one side. The flip side is all the other new Capitol Christmas stuff that year.

  5. It so happened that I found that sampler album in my one visit to the particular Goodwill store in L.A. you told me about, which I thought was pretty fitting.

I had seen the prior blog post, but didn't notice it was half about the world music series! I'll give that one a listen this year for sure.

  6. Pete-Is that the one just off Wilshire, near the Tar Pits? I went to a lot of Good will stores when I was thee. :)

  7. Yes, it was that one off Wilshire. I didn't find a lot there, but that sampler was one of them. It was a pretty big vinyl section for a Goodwill though.
