Another Demilio Sighting

Some months ago (OK, over a year), I scanned this LP cover because it features a couple of different Demilio covers. Just pictures of other covers, actually, but they are still recognizable as Demilio's, so I wanted to bring them to every one's attention. The LP you're looking at here is Edmundo Ros And His Orchestra-Standards...In The Latin Manner (London LL 1466). The two LPs you see on that ladies lap (and which appear to be pretty close to hitting the floor) are Ros Album Of Sambas and Latin Melodies, both also by Edmundo Ros. I don't think I've shown you either of these exact records before, but I did share the same picture that's on one of them. I've brought you at least one other cover that features pictures of other Demilio albums, but it only featured one Demilio among the LPs spread out on the floor.

The cover above is actually from the Ros LP Sambas!, but it's the same Demilio art as Ros Album Of Sambas. When you've got art this cool, why use it only once? I'll have to see if I can dig up that Latin Melodies cover.

A Demilio I Don't Have

Sometimes you have to look closely to see what's right there in front of you. I spotted this LP recently and didn't think much of it until I took a closer look. And sure enough, right there in plain sight was another Demilio cover, one that I didn't have! Unfortunately, I still don't have it, but at least I have a small picture of it. The record you're looking at above is Stanley Black And His Orchestra-Red Velvet (London LL 1592), but the Demilio cover I've blown up for you below is on Stanley Black And His Orchestra-Festival In Costa Rica (I can't read the catalog number, sorry). If you can't wait for me to find this fifty year old album, you can visit this website that has a picture of the UK version of the LP on Decca. He's also got two or three others that I've never seen, so I have my work cut out for me.

One More Demilio

It's been quite a while since I've brought you a new Demilio cover, one, because they're pretty hard to find, and two, because I've been too lazy to scan it in and piece it together in Photoshop. But I've got all my ducks in a row and I'm proud to present you with this new Demilio cover, my eighth, I believe. This is from Robert Farnon And His Orchestra-Flirtation Walk (London LL 1053). Last time I shared one of these covers with you, I posted all of the ones I have to date, so I'm going to point you to that other post rather than list them all again. And just for the record, I've got some more Demilio-related stuff I intend to share this week, so stay tuned.

Demilio Number Seven

Look! I found another Demilio cover this week! In case you haven't spotted this artist before here on the blog, have a gander at these earlier posts. I went ahead and scanned in the whole cover for you, so you can see that you aren't really missing anything else when I only show you the bit by Demilio. They all look pretty much like this one. For the record (and the search engines), this is Edmundo Ros And His Orchestra-Samba! (Richmond B 20032).

Maybe I should put all of the covers up here that I've found, just so you don't have to go clicking through the archives to see these great bits of art. But if you don't follow the link above, you won't learn what little I know about this artist...

Demilio Returns

I found another artwork by Demilio today. This brings my total up to six. They seem to be easier to find than Jim Flora stuff, and certainly less sinister, but at least as interesting. This comes from the cover to Edmundo Ros And His Orchestra-Calypso Mania (Richmond B 20021), which has a printed-on price tag of $1.98. That's pretty serious budget stuff. You can see the other examples of Demilio that I have found and read up on them here, here, here, here and here. As I mentioned in that last linked post, I've only ever found these covers shared out one other place on the web, and this seems to be one he doesn't have. I really should try to get in touch with that guy.

Another Demilio

I stumbled across another LP cover with artwork my the mysterious Demilio today. The picture above is from the LP Stanley Black And His Orchestra-Dancing In The Dark (London LL 1099). This one actually has a signature, unlike most. But the style is distinctive enough that I'm sure they are all by the same artist.

Demilio Sighting

I stumbled across an LP today shared at another blog that features a Demilio cover I haven't seen before. If you don't know who Demilio is, he's an artist I've been featuring here at the blog whenever I stumble across one of his covers. His stuff is pretty distinctive and quite cool in my opinion. The album in question is Carnival In The Sun by Stanley Black And His Orchestra (London 1100), and it's shared at Hooked On Stereophonic. Be sure you head on over there and download the LP while you check out the great cover. Now I've got another record to hunt down...

Another Demilio I Don't Have

One of my three devoted fans sent me a note today alerting me to another blog sharing out a record featuring a Demilio cover. That blog is Schadenfreudian Therapy, and the record is Edmundo Ros-Baions. I think this is one of the covers I've seen on the web but never in real life. And now, you can head on over there and not only see the cover, you can download the music from the vinyl inside that cover! What a bargain! Waltz Time

I found another LP cover done by Demilio, though it's not signed anywhere I can see. The style is unmistakable, though. I don't know what it is about the people with the big oval heads that I like, but they are irresistible. And no, the oval heads don't really remind me of Stewie Griffin. This detail is from the cover of Mantovani And His Orchestra-Waltz Time (London LL 1094)

First In A While

I have not found a new picture by Demilio in a long time, and then this popped up today in a stack of records!  I'm sure most of you don't remember, but I used to collect and post LP covers that this artist did for the London label (originating with Decca UK, I believe) back in the 50's.  I know nothing about him, and only a little about what albums he did.  This particular one is from Stanley Black-Carnival In The Sun (London LL 1100). Ros Mambos

I was pretty sure I had another of these great LP paintings by the mysterious Demilio, and here it is! This is from the cover of Edmundo Ros And His Orchestra-Ros Mambos (London LL 1092). I brought you two (1, 2) other LP covers by this guy earlier in the week, and linked you to a small website that has a few more, including this one. Now I have yet another series of albums I have to keep an eye out for...

Two Cigarettes In The Dark

Ah-ha! I knew if I hunted long enough, I could find that other album. I mentioned this LP in my last post as being by the same artist. There is no signature that I can find, but the style does look very similar, so I think we can attribute it to the mysterious Demilio. This detail is from the front cover of Robert Farnon And His Orchestra-Two Cigarettes In The Dark (London LL 1052). I need to keep trolling the archives to see what I can find...

Some Enchanted Evening

I don't have any good reason for posting this picture, other than I liked it. I actually looked at the record it was from on three different visits to the junk store where I found it, but didn't buy it until the third time. Something about it just makes me like it. The woman reminds me a little bit of Bruce Willis' girlfriend in Pulp Fiction. Anyhow, this is a detail from Stanley Black And His Orchestra-Some Enchanted Evening (London LL 1098). It's missing maybe a 1/4" from the left side of the picture because I was too lazy to scan it twice and stitch the parts together. Sorry. There's a hard-to-read name in the lower left corner. Demilio, maybe? Yep! I guess I'm not the only one to appreciate his work, but they don't have this one! I've got the one they show, Two Cigarettes In The Dark, but I can't find it right now...
