Shorb
With less than a week to go until the big day arrives, I've still got a lot of stuff to push out to you. Here's a fun religious album for your early morning listening pleasure. I'm a big fan of these guys' matching jackets, how snazzy are they! I think there's a credit on the back of the sleeve for those. The music isn't bad either, some four-part harmonies and a nice selection of the usual carols. This is The Shorb Brothers-Merry Christmas (Praise Records LPM 3040, Stereo).
1. Joy To The World!
2. Silent Night
3. I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day
4. Good Christian Men, Rejoice!
5. O Little Town Of Bethlehem
6. Do You Hear What I Hear?
7. Go Tell It On The Mountain
8. Angels We Have Heard On High
9. Ring The Bells
10. O Holy Night
11. What Child Is This?
12. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
2. Silent Night

I love the giant clef on the sleeves! This looks like a good one.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure those snazzy jackets put them a rung above the other artists on the same circuit. :)
DeleteAnd it would attract the ladies, I'm sure!
DeleteGroupies!!
DeleteTo tell you the truth, I am not as cold-resistant as I used to be so I would happily take one of those jackets. As old as they must be, they're likely made of some good wool and I'd wear one all winter long!
ReplyDeleteThey're probably in the back of someone's closet still. If only we could track them down.
DeleteTaking a closer look shows that this record may not be as old as I thought. The Shorbs on the ends in the photo are not wearing '50s haircuts. The fact that they have almost no familial appearance makes you wonder if they're really brothers...
DeleteI'm thinking 70's, but maybe a little earlier. And i have idea if they are really brothers.
DeleteWell Ernie, getting past the religious aspect of this album, they remind me of the few Barbershop Quartet albums I have in my collection.
ReplyDeleteI really like those "Sing Along" albums that came out in the late 50s and early 60s. I guess it was because of my days in the choir.
Glad you shared this one.
But the jackets, how do you feel about the jackets? :)
DeleteReminds me of the Glee Club. I refused to try out for the Glee Club. I was part of the Choir, we were higher class then they were. I was a bitch then, I can still be, and I am still one. You either love me, or not. Many do not, it has to do with cultural clashes.
ReplyDeleteThey also remind me of what I have seen in some of those old episodes from Ozzie and Harriet on YouTube. But you said maybe 1970s. Maybe they are stuck in time...
Yeah, I think they're a little stuck in time, or so it seems with this record.
DeleteReady for a fun fact, that is the same sweater that Jimmy Dean wears on his Christmas album cover!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! I think you're right!!
DeleteErnie - You need one of those - perfect for hunting records. (Maybe not in Florida.)
