The Mighty K-tel!

What else have I got from the great white north that I can share with you today? Hmmm, let me see. Oh, how about this great collection of various artists released on the K-tel label? I didn't even know they had K-tel in Canada (thought Wikipedia tells me it's a Canadian company!). I remember the ads all over TV in the Seventies and early Eighties advertising all the greatest hits on these big K-tel collections. There were plenty of songs that I only knew from the short snippets they played in those commercials, and I could sing them in order. Years later I got my hands on some of those records and realized that many of the records really did contain shorter versions of the songs, though maybe not quite as short as the bits in the commercials. Anyhow, this is Les 20 Plus Grands Souvenirs De Noël (K-tel (Canada) KF-127, Stereo, 1976). Not sure if these versions are abbreviated or not as I'm not familiar with the originals.

  1. The 70s were the heyday of shortening songs for budget records. How could they do this to Fernand Gignac?

  2. Ktel was a Canadian company based in Winnipeg for many years. Winnipeg DJ Bob Washington was the voice of Ktel for years. Seems this christmas comp was going after the quebec market with the stars of the time, as likely wouldn't be sold outside of qc if it's all french.
