FDR

How do you follow up a really good share? Maybe something that's not so good? I feel like there is going to be a lot of up and down this season. I was pretty indiscriminate about what I grabbed and record, I just wanted to grab as much as I could early in the year and commit the vinyl to digital. I wanted to spread out the load instead of trying to do everything in the month before the season started, and I think it worked out well. I've got a lot of good records and a lot of bad records in the pile to share, and sometimes you and I will differ as to which is which. Let's take this one for instance. I'm sure I grabbed it because of that cover. (Now I have to try and remember where I've seen it before. Pretty sure I shared it here at the blog... Found it!!) It's just kids singing, which some people love and some people won't even take a chance on. I always say you should take a chance on anything, so here's your opportunity to give something different a try. This is Roosevelt Elementary School-Mrs. Marjorie B. Seavey, Director-Holiday Memories (Roosevelt School 0320, Stereo). Interesting song selection on here, that's always a good sign. The kids get to have a little fun instead of singing the same old hymns.

1. Holiday Of Love
2. Silver Bells
3. Over The River (And Through The Woods)
4. Lowly Birth
5. Joy To The World
6. Angels We Have Heard On High
7. Hark Ye What Angel Voices
8. Jingle Bell Rock!
9. The Ballad Of The Donkey
10. I'm Getting Nuttin' For Christmas
11. Oh Little Boy Jesus
12. I Heard The Bells
13. White Christmas
14. O Bambino
15. O Tannenbaum
16. Are My Ears On Straight?
17. Jingle Bells
18. Have A Holly Jolly Christmas

  1. Another interesting-looking one, Ernie. Only other place I've ever heard Ears, is the flip-side of Gayla Peevey's 1953 recording of Hypo, got the 45, somewhere LOL. Keep 'em comin', got two, today, thus far, love and praying for y'all.

    1. It's a good song, though I don't know if this version rises to that same level. :)

  2. I don't think I've ever played the flip side of Gayla's greatest hit!

    1. Neither has anyone else... But it's not bad.

    2. Well, somebody did, at least, a little, on the copy I have, although Hypo is a lot more worn than Ears. Checking out my transfer here on the hard drive, a little while ago, yeah, it's got a few needle drops on it before I got it. Come to think of it, when I found it in that box of 45s in that thrift store in Eden, NC, it didn't have a cover, so it's in pretty good shape. LOL, love and praying for y'all.

    4. Yeah, roger on that. Kinda strange, as it has some surface noise right before it starts and (I believe) throughout the song, especially side one. If you guys want to hear it, y'all can give me your email addresses and I can send it to y'all, via SendThisFile. Love and praying for y'all.

    5. I don't need a copy, I have my own. :) Thanks, though.

    6. LOL, should-a-known. That find was kinda interesting, with several period 45s in the batch, including a Sammy K. Choral Christmas EP, which was in worse shape than GP's and a couple of Tennessee Ernie secular efforts, which run the gamut (yeah, Firefox, that is a word), from Country to almost Highbrow. Fixin' to eat, so, 'til next, love and praying for y'all.

    7. Fitting that you're about to eat. Didn't Ole Rockin' Ern do a song about Christmas Dinner? :)

    8. Yeah, thought about that, when I was typing that comment. I believe I believe I heard it first on (was it your) fifty-two-weeks-of-78s, a few years ago. Had two boles of chili, 'm 'm good. Oh and on that find, at the bottom of the last box, was a 45 from The Trace Family of OH, which I had only known before then, as being on 78. I believe the titles are My Mother's Bible/The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow, both, more than likely written by Sylvia Trace, seeing as she wrote most (if not all) of their material, great find! 'Til next, love and praying for y'all.

  3. I think it would be fun to make a playlist with songs from albums with the same stock cover.

    1. I can do a playlist with songs from albums that feature Rockefeller Center at Christmas on the cover, does that count?
