Io-way

Here's another state that I don't think I've visited this season, or maybe ever. Nope, I'm wrong on both counts. Looks like we already visited Iowa here at this post very recently, and in the past we've enjoyed some chimes from a big bank headquartered in the state. So much for my memory and thank goodness for the search feature. I guess I'm not as excited about this post as I was before I realized I had already done Iowa, so I'll shut up and give you the share. This is Iowa State University-Jubilate-Christmas Festival Of Music 1967 (Recorded Publications Company JZB-04171/04172, Stereo, 1967). Enjoy!

  1. I am just starting to listen to this album now, so I will send a 2nd comment later.
I notice the back side of this album cover. In order to go to this school, is it a requirement to be part of their different Choirs? Holy S***; that is some massive amount of individuals pictured there.
One thing, I have notice right off the bat, as they say, they sound a bit muddled.
    But, we will see...hear?

    1. I find many of these private recordings to be muddled, no matter how many people are involved. But the more people they try to fit on stage, the worse the recording becomes. :(

  2. I am sorry about this recording, I should not be, since I had nothing to do with it.
I notice is was done live, without any clean-up editing to it. What a shame.
    The symphony sounds very good.
The problem I hear is, there are just too many voices, and it sounds as I said muddled.
It would have been better, if they just choose one song if they wanted everyone singing together, but...
It would have been best to break up the two groups into separate groups and each of these groups into more specialized groups. It just sounds to me, a mess. I do not think even a digital remaster would have helped.

    1. Everyone had to be involved, so they couldn't leave out anyone who didn't sing up to snuff. But it's a muddled mess, you can't tell the good from the bad.
