Can Con 1

Christmas is just around the corner, so it's time for some music from right around the corner from the North Pole. Of course I mean something from our Canadian friends to the north. Their territory stretches almost to the North Pole, but not quite. Close enough for today's purpose though. This is the first of two records that were put out by the folks that run the Ontario lottery. It's all new songs, likely written just for this project. There are some really good songs here, though the production seems a bit dated at this remove. I'm sure you'll find something here to enjoy, and don't forget to come back soon for part two! This is Music Writers Orchestra-Santa Claus Is Canadian (Quality Records for Ontario Lottery Corporation ONT 100, Stereo, 1981).

  1. Thank you, Ernie. At one time, I downloaded this album. I'll have to see which one is better :)

  2. Ernie I get the feeling these singers came from the theatre, the off broadway or tryout ones. The exception being the voices that are off key, as in the Christmas Is for Children.
But the music orchestrations seem top notch.

Can you imagine the amount of copies they had to produce to give them away.
    or...
did you have to play the lottery to get one.
did you have to win the lottery, even the basic payout.
did they beg you to take one.
did the poor postman have to lug them around and shove then into someones postbox.
okay, I am being mean. It was a great thought to even put these out. Oh, they must have had bumpers years in earnings to do these albums.
Just think, the second hand shops in Canada must have loads of these.
On the other hand, melt them, they make good snack and candy bowls.
I prefer this album over the other one. But, both are cool to have as they are different then the same old carols and songs. Thanks for sharing these. Any more in this vain...

    1. Maybe they are more common in Canada, but I have not seen many here in Florida where a lot of Canadians retire to. However they handed them out, there are a lot fewer of them than, say, Goodyear records, so maybe that give you a price point. :)
