39-Swingin' Sleighbells

The theme of the day is bells! Sleigh bells, jingle bells, Christmas bells of all sorts. Too many variations on Jingle Bells than I wanted to use, but I wanted to get some variety in there. Could probably have filled the playlist up with different versions but I didn't want to overwhelm you if you chose to listen to the whole thing at once. I think Jingle Bells was one of the songs that I wound up with about 10 different versions of when I got to the end of the sorting. Not quite sure what I'm going to do with all the leftover versions of that song, Silent Night, White Christmas and I think a couple more. Just too many versions. But I'll worry about all that later. In the meantime, have a download and a listen to these. Enjoy! (Oh, looks like I dropped a sub-theme of star songs in here, too. Didn't notice that at first.)

  1. The theme is bells, and no bell ringers? (Not that I am complaining.) This is one of your most imaginative sets.

    1. I don't recall a single 45 of bell ringers all year. :( Clearly I need to work on that.

    1. I don't know how happy it is for the Ukrainians. :( But same to you, and merry Epiphany!

  3. Lots of good stuff here- The Supremes make an appearance! Like Larry Ritz's "Santa's Sleigh Bells". The Timbuk 3 medley was unexpected but they pulled it off. Thanks Ernie for the continuation of the season, and happy Three Kings Day!

  4. Dear Ernie, many thanks for this nice collection of jingling bells. I renew my wish of Paul Ankas Japan Jingle Bells Version on this way :).

  5. Lots of good ones here, including two trumpet players singing for a change! The Al Hirt selection is one of the livelier versions of the tune that is on his Christmas album.

    1. That's what I like about singles sometimes, they kinda boil the LP down to the best tracks. Or at least one good track if they don't want you to pay any attention to the b-side. :)

  6. Also great to have my favorite vocal version of Good King Wencelas posted a day after one of my favorite instrumental versions! This is the full-length version of the song; when it was featured on True Value's Happy Holidays, Volume 21, they edited out the grand instrumental introduction and began with the Ames Brothers singing; they reprised that same recording In Volume 25, one of the few volumes in the series that I have on cassette only.

    1. That grand fanfare of an intro is my favorite bit of the song! Who did that? Sid Ramin? It's great!

  7. Also great to have several of my favorite acts in this playlist, including Andy Williams, the Three Suns, and the Supremes in addition to the Ames Brothers and Vic Damone (the selection you chose here is totally new to me and I am looking forward to listening to it, as well as the Count Basie selection. I didn't think he cut any Christmas music until you crate-digged and unearthed the single posted here. Many thanks!)

    1. Yeah, I think Basie's Jingle Bells was the only holiday track he recorded. Plenty of stuff has been released in his name since his death, but he had nothing to do with it. :(
