Glen, Not Nelson

From the request lines, one that goes way, way back to 2007, with only a single reposting in 2008, then nothing until now.  Ten years ago really seems like the dark ages now, doesn't it?  This is pretty obscure but it's got a great cover and the nuns do a nice job on the singing.  This is from before ClickRepair, and I can't tell you exactly what bitrate it's at but it's low by today's standards.  But if you're looking for this, you ain't gonna find it too many other places.  This is The Glen Riddle Franciscans-Choral Group-Sisters Of St. Francis-We Sing Of Christmas (Private Pressing LPM-2, Mono).

1. Joy To The World-The First Noel
2. What Child Is This

8. Ring Those Christmas Bells
9. Carols: Un Flambeau Jeanette Isabelle-Es Ist Ein' Ros' Entsprugen-Alegria Alegria!

  1. Excure enough that I don't remember this at all, and maybe never knew about it as I wasn't as regular a follower back in those days. Thank you.

"However since the order moved to Glen Riddle all necessary funds are obtained through their own efforts. Raising the funds for so great an undertaking as the college is the sole responsibility of the nuns. The Order has no endowments and must rely on donations from friends, solicitations, aid proceeds of bazaars. At present, 32 of the junior professed sisters are preparing for a trip to New York City on Wednesday where they will cut a hi-fi record for Christmas The nuns have trained all summer under the music director, Sister M. Francis Assisi and will be accompanied on the piano by Sister M Rose Cecelia. One side of the record, titled "We Sing of Christmas," will be sacred music with the reverse side of traditional carols. It will be available at the convent in the Fall for a dona

  3. this is just a bunch of nuns singing boring choral music. i couldn’t turn a deaf ear quick enough and began hitting the booze. once i was done drinking, i found that i was still enamored of the cover art and wondered how many other such groups got roped into trying to replicate the success of sister sourire… whose career was nothing to smile about.

  4. "and I can't tell you exactly what bitrate it's at but it's low by today's standards."

All the tracks are 96kbps, but feeding through an audio analyzer shows that further compression down to the region of about 80kbps would not impact on audio quality. That is partly a function of the somplicity of the musical line - no complex orchestral audio.

So as you say low by today's standards.

An interesting find, best regarded as a worthy fund raiser, not prime entertainment.
