Christmas In July 2010 Redux, Day 4

And here you go, the fourth of four parts of my revisiting the shares from Christmas In July of last year.  Thanks again for all the comments.  I think this is the last of the Christmas music for a while.  I'm trying to get a whole pile of stuff recorded between now and November, both for myself and for you folks.  Wish me luck!  Here's the download link.

  1. Just founder yer blog on a link from BongoBells old site...I never knew there were other people that enjoyed Christmas music as much as I do! I admit whenever I feel down...I pop my headphones on and listen to a few traditional songs then ones that are meant to be funny LOL I'm happy to say I shall DEFINITELY be subscribing to this blog to get more music I don't have but I may have to grab up a portable hard drive soon (I have 65GB of Christmas Music alone LOL)

  7. Hi Ernie
Sorry to be a negative voice, but I actually find the Click Repair processing much more distracting than the original clicks. (Analog) clicks are part of listening to old vinyl, where as the digital blemishes CR seems to introduce definitely are not, and I find them disconcerting. I know from personal experience (25 yrs as a record producer) that it is possible to remove these clicks 'invisibly', but it takes a lot of time and attention, and you're clearly giving us far too much music to spend serious amounts of time on each track...
Anyway, despite the above comments, I love what you do and am a big fan. All I would say is (from my points of view) don't process the raw material too much. These are old records and we already know it and understand! :)
    very best, Simon

  8. Hey Simon. I appreciate the critical voice, actually. Have you listened to any of the ClickRepaired tracks alongside the un-repaired ones? I think I use a pretty light touch on it, only pulling out the worst things and leaving in more than most. I think I may use too much noise reduction on some tracks, though, but I've gotten lighter on that over the years, too. I don't listen to my recordings too closely, anyway, figuring they are what they are, 50 years after being laid onto the vinyl. :) Things that I thought I did a good job on sound funky when I listen to them later on...

  9. Hey Ernie
Yes, you're right - I need to do some serious A/B testing before I can make any categorical statments about click removal... if only there were more hours in the day! However, all I can tell you is that I only just got round to downloading 'Christmas In July 2010 Redux, Day 4' today, and for the first time with your material I was distracted by clearly audible digital artefacts. I'm only assuming it's the click reparing...
Anyway, please keep up the great work, just keep that light touch nice & light :)
[By the way, you contribute a huge amount to our family's Christmas, you know.]
    Thank you, Simon
