Welcome To Christmas 2008
Here it is the second day of Christmas Sharity and I haven't taken the time to properly welcome everyone to the fun! It seems like only yesterday I was wrapping up Christmas in July, and here it is Black Friday. And it's been a pretty black Friday for me indeed. I got a piece of mal-ware on the PC this morning and it took me almost all day to get rid of it. Hopefully that doesn't happen again, but if it does, you'll understand why the shares quit coming for a while. Anyhow, I've been preparing for this month since the first day of August, recording a full LP of material pretty much every single day between then and now, even managing to somehow keep that pace between trip to New York City, Charlotte, Kennedy Space Center and elsewhere. I've been blessed this year with the opportunity to travel lots of places and take some great pictures. But now I want to give a little back and share a whole pile of great albums with you that I've recorded and scanned in. The records I share out are all things that aren't available on CD, and they all come from my own personal collection and are my own personal rips. Most of them come from thrift stores here in Florida, and very few of them cost more than $1. Sometimes you can hear the low quality of the vinyl I collect, but most of the time it sounds fine. I do a little bit of noise reduction on all my shares, but sometimes you can't get rid of everything. And several titles that I really wanted to share had skips in them. I'll try to point that out in the shares, so you can skip them if that sort of thing really bothers you. All of my downloads are hosted through RapidShare. I've never had any trouble with them, but you are limited in how much you can download in a day. If you want to get everything I share and get it in a hurry, I suggest you get a month-long membership with them. It'll be worth it. I don't make any money off of that, just so you know. Most of my files are linked through a site that requires you to type in the characters you see on the screen before you can get to the download. Don't be alarmed, that's normal. And it often takes me a couple of tries to get those codes typed in correctly, so don't give up. What else do I want to share with you? Please leave me a comment if you enjoy something you download. I like comments. I feel like I've failed if a download doesn't get any comments. That tells me no one cares or enjoys it. I don't always share out the best music, but I think every LP has a little something to offer. If you really want to be nice, you might consider clicking on the ad at upper right, too. I do make a little money off that ad, and I do mean little. I think it took me 18 months to get my first check for $100. I'm not knocking it, but I'm not gonna get rich off of it, trust me. When I got that $101.01 check, I promptly went out and spent it, and $100 extra, on Christmas 45s. So you'll be hearing some of those this year. I think I've blathered on enough now. I probably don't have time to record much else, but don't hesitate to leave requests for music you'd like to hear. Just don't ask for something that's out on CD, since that's not kosher. Thanks for all your support!
Ernie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warm welcome. This is one of my favorite places to spend the holidays, and as you're such a gracious host, I'll drop by often. It's always fun to see what you have under the tree.
Ernie,
ReplyDeleteI look forward to all the music you have to share. I've learned so much about the music of Christmas on your site. You are doing a great service by restoring and sharing albums from The Three Suns, Dick Leibert and many others. I would like to request the "Music of the Holiday Season Chime-a-tron" recording that you found last year. I've downloaded several of your offerings today and I will try to comment more often from now on. Merry Christmas!
Holy crap, Ernie! Take a breath! There's smoke coming out of my hard drive trying to keep up.
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. ;-)
I really enjoyed discovering your site last year. And I'm eager to see what you have to share this year. I'll be an everyday visitor now, too, just so you know. You provide a wonderful, wonderful service and your many hours of searching and recording do NOT go unappreciated, I promise you that.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned, the official start to the Christmas season is not the appearance of catalogs in my mailbox, it the appearance of vinyl shares on Ernie's blog! Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the new season...!
ReplyDeleteNow we gotta get you to use paragraph breaks. My old eyes kept losing my spot on the page....
It's not even December and I'm already behind on downloading everything you're sharing!
ReplyDeleteI've also enjoyed the photos posted now and then. Not to diss any of the other sharity sites, but I do actually read your blog year-round.
I feel a bit silly admitting how much the music you share enhances my holidays. But it really does.
Ernie, it's us who should be thanking you. You've introduced us to so much great music, and you're a great guy to boot. You give me something to look forward to every day in December (and July).
ReplyDeleteHello Ernie,
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across your site quite accidentally while doing an image search on Google and I have felt incredibly thankful for it. I fall into the camp of music fans who believe there are only two kinds of music; good music and bad music, and your site surely has introduced me to a lot of good music that I would have otherwise missed if it weren't for preservationists such as yourself. Again, thanks a lot. Not only have I found great music on your site, but I'm also finding a ton more by following your links. Again, I really appreciate it!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!
Danny
Hi Ernie I've really been enjoying some of your downloads from this year - especially the Paul Mauriat & Raymond Lefevre....anyway, i can't get the link to work for Merriest Christmas Pops that you shared back in 2007.
ReplyDeleteI know you're a busy man but if you get a moment to re-post it I'd be very grateful.
Keep up the good work - it really is appreciated - Thank You & a very happy Christmas to you.
Thanks for the note. I just checked and that download is still available and working. I'd give it a while and try again. Could be trouble on your end.
