Full Speed Into May

This week's calendar picture is a shot from one of the pace laps immediately preceding last year's Daytona 500. You can see the weather was pretty poor, but I still got a few decent shots. You can't tell from the picture, but that Corvette leading the actual race cars is being driven by Jay Leno. No lie!

  1. That is a great pic- I long for the day when I get to go to a NASCAR race!

  2. This kind of race is very costly in oil. Do we have the right to pollute just for fun ?

  3. to see a race in person is quite an experience but it is long, hot and boring. they are much more exciting on TV when you get shots of the pits and the racer stats and all that. in person, you sit and watch round and round and round and with long stretches between cautions, it can (and often does) lull people to sleep!

  4. I think it's more exciting to see them race around in cars and waste the oil than to see them run around the track on foot for 500 miles. Talk about taking forever and being boring...

And just for the record, I barely made it past the tenth lap or so of this race... It's better on TV, but still yawn-inducing.
