A Cartoon Christmas 11
I'm feeling too sick from all that cereal so I can't get off the couch to change the channel. Looks like it's a double feature of Strawberry Shortcake today, what luck. Of all the cartoons on my schedule today, this is the only character with two Christmas records. This one looks like it was put out by some different people than the last one, though still in cahoots with American Greetings. This outfit, Scholastic, was the the group that did the school book fairs and publications aimed at classrooms and education. Not sure what the history of this record is, but it's clearly not aimed at the same amrket as the previous one. This is Strawberry Shortcake-Strawberry Shortcake And The Winter That Would Not End (Scholastic/American Greetings 0-590-31088-7, Stereo, 1983). As you can see below, it's a picture disc, though only on one side. The flip side is black like a regular record, but it's still made of some sort of clear plastic like this type of picture disc is (you might be able to hear a slight reduction in the sound quality because of that). Looking at the Discogs entry for this record, it's supposed to have a picture on both sides, my copy must be some sort of error disc. Maybe it's worth a small fortune, I should sell it and retire. (Looks like I'm also missing a book that should have come with it, so much for it being worth anything.)

Oh boy, a picture disc! But it's Strawberry Shortcake in a blizzard with a large rodent. You say this is worth money?
ReplyDeleteVery rare, gotta be worth a lot!
DeleteKeep it in your safe deposit box, Ernie!
ReplyDeleteMy condo is one big safe deposit box!
DeleteYou know you've reached a certain age when the records from your childhood show up on this blog, haha. I remember having this record along with the book - I also seem to remember that it only had an image on one side, nothing on the back. I wonder if there was more than one version.
ReplyDeleteI didn't much care for this record back then. Maybe it was because unlike the 'read-along' books + records I was more familiar with, this one didn't tell you when to turn the page? Or maybe because it didn't have the same voice actors as the cartoon. I'll give it another chance now. Thank you, Ernie!
I wasn't at all familiar with the cartoon, so I wouldn't know if it were the same voices or not. As is the case with most of these cartoon records, I would guess it is not though. Which is a shame, would it have cost them that much more money to make a better quality products with better voices? I guess it was too much to ask. :(
