Big Bad John

Let's start off this fine Sunday before Christmas with yet another religious record. I'm sure you're sick of them by now, but I've got a lot of them and I'm going to keep pushing them on you until I run out. This one is The John Hall Family-Merry Christmas (Peace Records LST 1225, Stereo), and it's probably more of the same stuff I've been sharing with you all season. You'd hope they could come up with at least one new track, generate a tiny bit of songwriting royalties here, but no. Oh well, it's still worth a listen. Look, there's that other wreath cover I was looking for. Now what record did I want to link that to?

1. Do You Hear What I Hear
2. Oh, Little Town Of Bethlehem
3. Silent Night
4. We Three Kings
5. White Christmas
6. O, Holy Night
7. C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S
8. It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
9. Away In A Manger
10. We Wish You A Merry Christmas

  1. You wanted to link it to the guys with the burnt orange suits, I think.

That's a very 70s gigantic fireplace - well, not so much the fireplace itself but the yellow brick work surrounding it.

  2. Thanks for posting, Ernie and yeah, it was The Blue Ridge Quartet, to which you were referring. There was a Big John Hall, who sung bass with a quartet, years ago, but can't remember which group it was, maybe The Homeland Harmony Quartet out of Atlanta, GA. While we're on the subject, if you please, Ernie, I'd like to do a little more Christmas sharity. Here's a vid our church put out, a few years ago, enjoy.

    2. LOL, you're welcome, but I was guessing and shawnuff, I was wrong. Looks like he was most notably with The Blackwood Brothers Quartet and The Stamps Quartet, pre-J.D. Sumner's ownership of the latter. Enjoy my previously-posted link, love and praying for y'all.

    4. Yeah, they were the group, back in the day. I'd say he fit them better than J.D., IMHO, never been a big J.D. fan. Merry Christmas, love and praying for y'all.

  3. This singer was on Christian television quite a bit in the late-'80's and early-'90's. He may have also appeared in a few Gaither Homecoming videos. Passed away from COVID-19 complications a few years ago.

  4. Almost has the same front cover as the Blue Ridge Quartet album you posted!
