What's Opera, Doc?
I'll tell you what's opera, this record is opera. I like to listen to and bring you all different kinds of Christmas music, but I think opera is the hardest for me to get into. I've barely listened to this one so I hope it sounds OK. It's just not my bag at all. Hopefully someone out there will be able to enjoy and appreciate it. This is Chelsea Opera Group Orchestra And Chorus-Frank Bridge "The Christmas Rose" (Pavilion/Pearl (England) SHE 582, Stereo, 1983). I've scanned a few of the bonus items I found in this record, too. There's a flyer from the record company advertising other releases and a hand-written summary of the performance as well. You just never know what you'll find in the sleeves of old records.

DeleteThanks, Ernie - this is one I've not seen before. Frank Bridge was the teacher of the much better known Benjamin Britten.
ReplyDeleteThis may not be too common, I think there was a note on there about it being produced by or for the Frank Bridge Appreciation Society. How many could they have pressed up?
DeleteBridge was a niche label that specialized in English music and artists. It's the practice even today for recordings such as this to be subsidized by composer societies. But surely it did not produce that many copies.
DeleteOhhh, didn't know that...
DeleteAs I do like opera, I am looking forward to this one. Thanks for the diversity of Christmas music, and for still keeping things going well into March. I love it!
ReplyDeleteLemme know if it's any good. :)
DeleteErnie, I always enjoy listening to Opera and or Classical voice... will have to see how it goes :)
ReplyDeleteLemme know what you think. I don't have any idea if this is good or bad.
DeleteWell Ernie, I am not a fan of Opera or classical, per say, for the main reason it increases my ADHD/ADHS symptoms. However, this was a pleasent experience to listen too and it did not cause me any problems. The music was more enjoyable for me than the vocals.
ReplyDeleteGlad you gave it a chance! :)
