Men & Boys
Up next is a rare album that features singing from both men and boys. I actually don't know how rare that is but it struck me as funny. Don't know why, it just did. I have a strange sense of humor sometimes. I had to check just now to see if this was by chance a Lutheran church, but it appears to be Anglican, about whom I know nothing. Let's go look that up. First thing it says is that they are in-between Catholics and Protestants, and in some countries they are called Episcopalians. Well, that I've heard of, so now we know. You didn't expect to learn anything at the blog today, did you? We can all learn a little something, it's not painful. This is The Men And Boys Of The Choir Of St. Matthias' Church-This Day (No Label (Canada), MS-10783, Stereo), enjoy! (It looks like I got the name of the singers wrong here. The cover actually calls them The Boys And Men Of St. Matthias' Church, so I got the men and boys backwards. And it's also just listed as The Choir Of St. Matthias' Church on the labels, so there's that...)

St Matthias Church: English-language church in Westmount, Quebec. Cool find! Discogs says this is one of seven Christmas LPs by their choir.
ReplyDeleteSome churches really churned out the records. I recently found three Christmas records by a church near Ft. Lauderdale, FL in my collection, and I don't think I bought them together.
DeleteErnie, what a lovely Easter gift.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I do prefer these all Male Mixed Choirs when it comes to Christmas and Easter Church services.
I am just wondering...
By boys, I would assume they are referring to those in the Choir that are up to possibly being 14 years of age. From 14 upwards, they probably are referred to as men.
This Choir is biting the asses of their counterparts across the pond over in Kings College. They sound really good.
Another rare 10 from my current listening mind. What a magnificent organ they have here, too bad they did not include a picture of it. As they said, it is all shiny and new.
Shepherd's Pipe Carol, what a joy.
Anonymous says they recorded 6 more of these. I only hope they are as great as this one. Easter albums too?
The Kings Choir, probably my favorite, what was their feeling of their Canadian cousins?
