A Little Hubris
Been holding back this LP for a long time now because I wasn't happy with the images I had of the inside of the gatefold, but I'll go ahead and share it with you now because I'm tired of worrying about it. The reason I had to photograph it instead of scanning it was because it's a rare pop-up gatefold Christmas LP! We've seen a few of these before, but I can't think of any off the top that I've been able to share because they're usually collections of the same old songs performed by the same old artists you can download at any legit streaming service, but this one is a little different. It's all in Spanish and this particular copy was made for the Peruvian market. Not every day you come across a (second) record from Peru, but leave it to me to find something. I think there's a little something disturbing about the imagery inside the popup though, but you tell me what you think. The band has decided to add themselves into a nice little tableau of the Nativity. Not sure I would have approved of that design decision, but here we are. What do you think, is that appropriate? Either way, this is Parchis-Villancicos (Discos America (Peru) ELD-02.10.1028, Stereo, 1980). Enjoy!

You're right - having this kiddie group literally pop up in the Nativity scene is very odd. The donkey in the manger seems to be giving them the ol' side eye.
ReplyDeleteDonkey knows better. :)
DeleteI'd love to know who thought that was a good idea. I actually did cringe.
ReplyDeleteI hope they felt important...
DeleteWhat is it, Gumping? Photobombing? I mean, it's not a real photo, maybe it's more akin to Steve Martin's "The Lonely Guy" where he fills his apartment with cardboard cut outs of people. Like, as a teen, I had (still have) a cardboard cut out in my bedroom of Elvira hawking Coors. Ah, I've said too much.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow.
It's weird indeed. -Organ
Well, I think their photo is real. It's just unsettling. And who doesn't have a cardboard cutout of Elvira in the bedroom? I mean, it's right there next to the poster of Kathy Ireland.
DeleteThank you! ;)

I agree with Buster. That donkey seems a bit skeptical of the new visitors.
ReplyDeleteDonkeys are always a bit skeptical.
DeleteYes, Ernie... the inside photo is weird, but maybe not so weird for the Peruvian public ;)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it was like that in the original Spain release or not. I doubt if Peru would have gone to all that trouble for such a release, but maybe.
